Exo Terra Cricket Pen, Black, Large

This is a great and very useful item for anybody with a pet that needs to be fed insects, particularly crickets. I use the large size it makes emptying out the plastic containers insects typically come packaged in the shops and also means that I can place plenty of fresh food for the crickets so they are gut-loaded before they are fed to my gecko. I tend not to use the trays supplied as I prefer to use fresh fruit and vegetables to feed the crickets but they are good for dried food, water gel or the sponge can be used if you need to use water but I found it tricky getting these out again when there were still crickets in the tank; you could maybe attach strings or something to pull them up to make it easy. The tank is easy to clean with few parts for muck to get stuck in but the tubes are best cleaned out using a bottle brush. I've had very few problems using this, the tubes are ideal particularly when you are adding a calcium or vitamin powder to your pet's food as all you do is shake a few of the insects out of the tube, into a plastic bag and add the powder and shake the bag out into your pet's tank. I don't remove the clear cap ends as I see no need to and there are no replacements if I lost or broke any of them if I were to remove them. Overall, this is great for people who have pets who need insects to eat but who prefer to keep the contact with the insects to a minimum and have few escapees!

This is a great product. I am please I bought this one of another popular brands. The big difference is a simple one....the direction the flaps open. This one has the hinges so the open into the Pen which means the instects cannot jump out. The other Pen you can get is hinged so it opens on the outside. Its nice and big and and I easily got 50 XL locust into it. All I need do is look down the tube through the clear caps and if there are any Insects in then you can tip some cricket powder in to coat the insect and then shake the critter into the Viverium. Highly recommended. The only niggle is the the hatch on the top is a little small so tipping in the Hoppers from a tub is tricky.

I actually prefer this keeper to any I have seen on the market. it's nice and big, four feeding tubes that you don't have to use all at once. the food and water dishes are a great touch too. the lid is easy to pop on and off and has a small top window you can open to dust the little critter's with which saved having to take the whole lid off. some people have complained about crickets dying too fast but I have found that spot checking every day is important. if one is dead, take it out straight away. I have found that less die this way. keep the food and water bowls refreshed every day and your crickets will last quite a bit longer. I have found that the best way to keep the crickets hydrated is to use Bug Gel. they don't drown and get all the water they need. (just throw the water sponges out, the crickets end up eating them anyways so not much point in using them really) Escaping cricket's, the bane of every lizard lovers life. I found an easy way around this problem. do this in the bath. the escapes are easy to see that way and you can usually catch them pretty fast. (it also helps to have a cat on hand but not everyone has one) it takes practice to get it right though so it won't be smooth sailing from the start :) All in all a good keeper I have found.

Cricket pen? Gives the impression it would contain crickets. Not the case! Carefully transferred our crickets from the container they were purchased in to the pen. No escapees....phewww. 3 days later I spot a cricket walking along my hallway!! OK maybe just a one off. 1 day later a family are out for a leisurely stroll along my Hallway. I should mention to do this they have negotiated a secure crickets pen haha, 2 closed doors, 4 cats, 3 dogs and 15 stairs. No mean feat, kudos to the crickets! Day 7, word has clearly gotten round that there is far more interesting things in my hall than in the cricket pen, today I found 7 crickets....im sure there's more as there are now no crickets in the pen!! All in all great idea, looks good, is well made but it is not secure for small creepy crawlies....either that or my crickets are undercover for MI5!

Works great for storing crickets and locusts for our leopard gecko! Great quality! Could be better with the tubes caps and should probably be a different colour rather than clear…. Hadn’t noticed one wasn’t on as it’s clear = 80 crickets escaped into our house 😂

Fast delivery in good condition at first was fine but had to buy a bigger one as the small crickets was getting out of the top holes

Arrived quickly and in good condition. Perfect for keeping crickets for my Leopard Gecko. The crickets naturally climb up the tubes, so it is easy to retrieve the amount of crickets you need. The trays provided mean that feeding and hydrating is easy and clean. I will most likely be upgrading to the larger pen soon. My only problems with this pen are that smaller crickets tend to climb and get stuck behind the food and water trays, and also the little flaps by the tubes can sometimes get stuck upwards (all they need is a little push).

I needed to house and dispense live crickets to my gecko. The Cricket Pen does both very well. I am on my first batch of 40 crickets and after a week, everyone is healthy and no one has escaped. The large pen is appropriate for 50 adult or 100 small crickets. I have had a small Cricket Pen for months. It showed itself to be durable, but too small. Unless you enjoy a couple trips a week to the pet shop, I would go with the large size.

Excellent produit. Il vient avec 2 coupelles, une avec une éponge noire qu'on peut humidifier pour qu'ils puissent boire dedans sans se noyer, et l'autre coupelle pour y placer leur nourriture. J'y ai rajouté une petite coupelle pour ajouter des fruits/légumes frais à part pour ne pas que ça fasse moisir la nourriture sèche en cas de contact prolongé. Les 4 tubes noirs sont excellents, ils y grimpent et sont faciles à gérer une fois dedans, j'y ai ajouté un rouleau de PQ coupé en 2 pour + de cachettes, j'ai aussi ajouté des copeaux de bois (ceux pour rongeurs dans mon cas). On peut facilement utiliser moins de tubes si on a peu d'individus ou pour X raison, mais attention à ce que le trou du tube ne reste pas ouvert, léger point négatif, il a tendance à ne pas retomber automatiquement, mais il retombe assez facilement avec un petit coup de doigt puis reste bien en place. L'accès par la petite fenêtre centrale en haut est très pratique pour accéder au contenu sans avoir d'évasions, puis si vous avez de petits grillons tout jeunes ils n'arriveront pas à sauter bien haut donc même en retirant tout le couvercle extérieur le temps de nettoyer les parois, ça ne s'échape généralement pas. Les grillons n'arrivent pas à escalader les parois donc attention à ne pas coller vos coupelles ou vos tubes noirs contre une paroi, car parfois ils sont maladroits et tombent entre la paroi plastique et un élément du décor et leurs pattes n'adhèrent pas au plastique donc ils glissent et n'arrivent plus à se redresser, coincés pour toujours -> peuvent en mourir. -> Il suffit de laisser un petit espace entre le décor et les parois de plastique et tout va bien.

Love that it keeps the crickets contained as intended. The chute idea makes feeding time a breeze. Just be careful when trying to get crickets out as you can't see how many are about to fall out! Hahaha. My beardie got a huge dinner our first time using this.
