Excellent dial indicator, but tip shank is NOT #4-40 threaded
I purchased this item, supplied with an installed probe tip that appears to be a very small, stationary ball bearing. The indicator works beautifully, extending and retracting smoothly and effortlessly. I have no means to check its accuracy, but measurements that I have made are highly repeatable. Subsequently, I purchased two different probe tips with larger radius contact points and was surprised to learn that the telescoping rod on the indicator is (female) threaded something other than the expected #4-40-- probably a metric size and thread pitch. Nonetheless, the indicator and magnetic base are of very high quality, and the blow molded plastic case compactly contains the indicator and magnetic base without issue.
