Very pleased

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A slightly mixed bag, but a promising a good return to form for the franchise.

Having initially seen the book in a local store and then feeling compelled to pick this up from the previous reviews and being a fan of Resident Evil in general, my feelings on this are a little mixed; On the one hand, it's a relatively solid story that fits easily into the Resident Evil canon, but can also be approached by newcomers to the franchise, as all established characters from the series are introduced naturally into the narrative. On the other hand, the book mixes elements standard to the Resident Evil franchise with elements that could be considered stereotypical of say, a harem manga or anime in a manner that can be hit or miss, and it's somewhat unusual to see a young male character gushing over attractive schoolgirls for this franchise. There's also a slightly problematic approach to exactly how seriously we're meant to take the main threat in this series, which is the appearance of a zombie with the potential for an epidemic at the titular academy; this main plot thread is handled about as well as any for the Resident Evil series, and is a mystery worthy of the very first game's mansion incident, with both the perpetrator of the plot and the headmistress' need for secrecy being handled well. The potential problem of the zombie and possible outbreak or biohazardous incident is well developed, but then almost derailed entirely when we reach scenes involving Chris, Piers and their BSAA team handling entirely more dangerous BOW's including the series trademark Hunters and Lickers like they're no problem at all. This is slightly disappointing in that it almost feels like it undermines the main plot thread, which is a shame since it features the welcome return of zombies to the franchise when they hadn't been seen (in series canon) since the last game in Raccoon City. This aside, the book does have other troublesome elements like the two leads being entirely too accepting to take orders from the headmistress of the school despite her aggression and violence toward them. But generally these are small issues, and the book presents a solid and compelling mystery, particularly as it promises to tie-in to Resident Evil 6 and perhaps will assist in providing more background for that game's slightly underbaked 'Neo-Umbrella' subplot. The art is also particularly solid, minus a few posing issues here and there and while the monsters from the series canon are undoubtedly referenced, the zombies - and again, it is a welcome return to see them in the franchise with a little more explanation again - are suitably rotten and unnerving. Alongside Revelations 2, this makes it a good time to be a Resident Evil fan.
