much better picture than the one it replaces
I bought this to replace a Haupppauge dual tuner stick. My Grandson is a big Dr Who fan, I can't convert media centre recordings for his innotab tablet, so I decided to use the tv centre software. My computer crashed a couple of times initially while setting up. I also had a problem with picture being a bit unstable. ticking the deinterlace box cured it. The picture quality is very good in high definition, and better than old tv stick it replaces on normal freeview. It's a sensitive tuner too.Distan TV - you set up a small piece of,client software on pc and watch tv via your network, streams normal freeview to my atom 1.6ghz Asus netbook no problem using WiFi.Distan TV mobile - this allows you to view TV in a webpage or on ipad and ipod, Didn't work with IE9, page didn't format correctly. Using with google chrome it works well. access to TV guide, able to schedule recordings remotely, you also have access to any TV center recordings on host computer. It says it needs to be activated after 14 day trial, I clicked activate and was given a key at no cost.Recording - very good, the epg guide is a bit naff, but usable. Recordings are .ts files. only problem I had was my divx player was default player for .ts files and it couldn't play them. I changed default for .ts to tv centre and all was well. It's handy being able to convert files to the required format from the TV Center software, and its very easy to do. All my recordings so far have been perfect.I'm very happy with this product, being able to watch TV on my netbook is a big plus for me. The Picture quality is very good. I've upgraded it to five stars, The fact I got distan tv mobile at no extra cost merited another star.distan tv mobile is very good and included, despite saying it's a trial. Just a few niggles with tv Center software.P.S My Sister gave me an old Ipod touch series 2 I think, It works well with distan TV. I can view live TV, play recordings, and set recordings from schedule. My Grandson watched a recording of power rangers I had recorded, over the Internet. He thinks I'm a Genius, LOLOne more thing I read people were having problems installing the hardware, So I installed drivers before plugging in usb tuner. I remember years ago people having similar problems installing twain drivers for scanners, The answer was install the software and wait until it asks for hardware to be plugged in. If you plugged hardware in first, Windows misidentified the hardware. May be a similar problem.

Great Hardware - Software not so good
The good news about this product is that it will both display and record Freeview and Freeview HD on your PC just fine. You need to be careful your PC is powerful enough for HD use and (as with all things DVB-T)you need a solid aerial feed. The Bad news is that the bundled TV Centre software is not so great - it can and does do the job, but frankly it is a bit of a mission. Media Centre users seem to get an easier ride !Firstly just scanning the channels is time consuming chore - there are three settings 'quick, normal & deep' - for which read 'slow, dead slow and take the afternoon off'- Mine got all the channels in 'quick', but for some reason I had to wait till BBC3 and 4 were broadcasting before it saw them. The system doesn't allocate Freeview EPG numbers, it simply numbers in the order it finds them. It is easy to set up favourite lists in the right order, but you still don't get the Freeview channel numbers. Why don't they just let you edit the numbers? The biggest issue is that the Freeview HD EPG doesn't work properly so you have to use the SD ones for BBC1 HD, ITV HD and CH4 HD.- It is a breeze to change the channel number when setting recordings so this is a minimal problem. Unfortunately you have to set up BBC HD recordings manually. The Picture quality from the HD channels is everything you would expect - just beautiful in full screen mode on my 1680 x 1050 monitors. I presume it would be perfect if you have a full 1920 screen. There is a viewing and file conversion module called 'Gallery'. I have had no issues viewing my recordings, but the conversion software often seems to fail. You also have to pay a nominal fee for a license if you want to convert to Divx or decode Dolby streams - which is a bit of an ask for a product at this price!. Frankly you are better off exploring third party solutions for this, but why should you have to when you paid this much? That said the native H264 .ts files play fine in VLC player and I stream directly to my TV using an Xtreamer. It all works OK so I am actually pretty happy. The worst experience is their support who are incredibly unhelpful. It would help if they actually read your emails properly. They simply refuse to admit there is a problem with the HD EPG, even though a Google search quickly reveals that no-one is getting it to work. I find this particularly disappointing given the high price tag.Still there is no other real alternative right now and it does work if you accept these minor limitations.

In the words of my teacher wife, satisfactory but could do better
Works OK but some channels are not found despite every other TV in the home registering maximum signal from the same amplified aerial distribution unit. According to the onscreen display many channels only register 30-35% signal. Occasionally it will not lock on HD channels at all and everything freezes, needing a re-boot to sort it. Also there appears to be a driver conflict and if I leave the nanostick plugged in and then try to print from another program the printer locks on pause and again reboot is the only solution. (I have to use a wired connection for my printer since the router also freezes if there are too many wi-fi devices using it). In short it will do,with good sound and picture, but has many typical digital glitches, which I have to learn to manage, eg to protect my printer I now disconnect the nanoStick when not viewing.
