Can the sub be used with ambeo max or just the plus?

In terms of wirelessly connecting the sub to the Ambeo MAX, I am not 100% sure on that, but the Ambeo MAX does have a RCA connection which can be used to do a wired connection to the Ambeo Sub.

Doesn't work wirelessly with the Soundbar Max

I gave it a shot with a COAX cable and it sounded good. Not as good as a Klipsch powered sub. The benefit would have been a wireless connection allowing me to put the sub in a place near the couch. The Klipsch is in a cabinet. I ended up returning. Sennheiser, fire the product manager for not having this thing work with your most expensive soundbar.

Wireless connectivity problems

Cant connect it wireless to my Ambeo Max soundbar, had to order a cable instead. Its suggested in the manual as an alternative but cable not provided in the box. Insane for the premium item like this. Sound is gorgeous but saving on a cable is not the way to go.

I've now spent over a dozen hours back and forth with Sennheiser sport over this wireless subwoofer in combination with the Ambeo soundbar and it is complete garbage. Relentless connection issues between the soundbar and the subwoofer and this device does not work if your home uses any type of Wi-Fi connection whatsoever. I'm told by customer support that this is my fault because I have a Wi-Fi system in my home which is absolutely insane. I have other high-end audio equipment like a Klipsch home theater audio system in my basement theater setup and I'm very familiar with proper setup and the system is completely and compatible with any type of normal home use. Customer support is incompetent, and please do not put yourself through buying this product.
