A Apple Pie

The pictures in this alphabet book are delightful and the text is so different. I have a young grandson who is just about the age to learn the alphabet, but this book will do double duty for me. Each of the letters is given in block letters and in Cursive (upper and lower case). My granddaughter with learning disablities will read a page a day and practice writing the letters in cursive which is difficult for her. Anything that helps to cement attention on the task is a great help. I was delighted with the artwork. I have several books illustrated by Spirin. He's terrific.

This is a great book. I bought it used and it came in great shape.

Really artistic ABC book. I love to be able to read a more dignified-looking (you might say) ABC book with my little boy. The colors are not bright, and some would like to know there is some cleavage shown.

Okay. If your kid is the kind that really likes artwork in picture books, and doesn't care so much for story, maybe this is for them. There's definitely an old-world feel here, which reminds me of early 20th century Christmas books, though with a lot more colors.But if your kid wants any sort of quality in writing, skip this. The little public domain ditty it was taken from is just a very boring list of things children do with an apple pie, and the latter letters of the alphabet find themselves oddly used. X and Z had absolutely no X or Z involved, for example. And the artist doesn't even bother being particularly clever with their illustrations. Perhaps if there were extra details in the background, it might be an interesting little seek-and-find, but the action in the pictures is very bland.Don't even bother with a library checkout. I was, luckily, at the library with my nephew (3 years old), and he could not keep his attention on the book at all. Glad I didn't have to carry it home.
