Really easy way to tone balayage
I’ve got naturally porous, curly mid-brown hair that had balayage bleach a year ago (before going for BRIGHT colours). Since then it’s been badly sun damaged and was a rather brassy bleached out look. I used the pastel pink aiming for a rose gold effect and its perfect. It doesn’t dye all of my hair, just the palest blonde strands, which combines really nicely with my natural golden sun-bleached brown. So easy to apply - I coat mid- lengths to ends, plus the lighter areas around my face, with my hair dry, then comb it through and leave tied back for a couple of hours, then rinse and condition. The pale colour means I don’t need gloves or a protective towel, and there’s no drips or mess. One pot is just the right amount for my mid-back length hair (when straight) starting at around my ears, if I needed to do all of my hair I’d need two pots. The tone lasted well for 2-3 weeks before fading, and was mostly gone after 5 weeks (I only way my hair once a week). My second application after 5 weeks looks stronger as my hair condition has improved (after leaving a warm climate). Love the minimal smell as I’m hypersensitive. I’ve been using directions for close to 25 years now, since my teens, and it’s never disappointed but this is definitely the easiest colour I’ve used. One friend couldn’t believe it wasn’t a salon dye job because it works so well. I’d really recommend it if you’re bored of your balayage and want to soften yellow tones.

Brilliant and Fast!
So I am directions virgin and I decided that after reading through the reviews I thought I would give it a go. Was a little worried that there wouldn’t be enough as I have quite long thick hair, normally I use the Schwarzkopf hair dyes and I need two boxes. Anyway... I carried on and I was amazed that actually there was enough in that little pot to do my hair! I went with the cerise colour just cos since turning 40 and discovering a grey hair or two I needed something bold. I left it on for about 15 minutes maybe slightly over as I was worried my hair might go vibrant pink! I should really have done a before and after picture but totally forgot... to give you an idea my hair colour before I dyed it was a mousy brown colour darker at the top and lighter at the bottom (probably from previously colouring my hair). As you can see from the photos my hair took really well to the dye and it is darker at the top still but almost like a purple colour (pictures don’t do it justice) with the bottom part of my hair looking much brighter. I have to say I did wear gloves whilst applying this but I did manage to cover my head, ears and neck in pink dye. It did come off pretty well but still it is very messy if your doing it yourself like me. I didn’t use a brush I just rubbed it all through my hair and hoped for the best but as you can see I didn’t do a bad job. I’m definitely going to buy more of these hair dyes probably this one again as I really like it. If your hair is dark or medium brown and you want the bold pink colour you will need to bleach or lighten it first I might do that next time.. I am impressed with how quick it took most dyes require at least 25 mins. There isn’t really a smell to this pot either so you don’t get that ammonia smell. Hope you find the review helpful... I would definitely recommend!

Prepare for compliments ...... This stuff is pretty EPIC :)
Okay, so I received the pot and opened up to a stunning rich plum purple colour. It looks dark but don`t let that put you off. I first prepped my hair by using the Direction pre-wash shampoo, highly recommended and towel dried my hair. I then popped on some rubber gloves, very important, and started applying. I have very fine, mid shoulder hair and used around half the pot, popped the lid on and saved for another time. My hair is currently a washed out red colour, I never bleach my hair as it`s in pretty poor condition due to having Chemotherapy last year and losing a little bit of my hair. I left the colour on for about 20 minutes, it states around 15 minutes but I left a little longer. One tip ...... make sure you have some Vaseline to use on your skin as this stains a little. Another tip ...... make sure you have loads of bleach to clean the shower/bath/your hands! I wash off the colour and it leaves a beautiful plum colour, shiny and manageable, I use a little bit of conditioner in the end and comb through before rinsing. The colour stains A LOT!! Make sure you have some bleach to clean the shower and bath. I had to use a little bleach in my hands to wash off the colour as my hands at stained purple a little. I don`t recommend you take a normal shower and wash this off as this will stain your body!! Also avoid the rain or getting your hair wet (swimming etc.) for a couple of days later as this runs and stains your head. The colour lasts me around 14 days, that`s with washing everyday but will differ from person to person. It changes colour every time I wash it and I get complimented everyday on my hair colour. I would give this 5 stars but the stress of bleaching everything including myself afterwards knocks a star off.

Short lived
This is a beautiful colour and was a good price. The application is fairly easy and it doesn’t smell bad which is a bonus. I found when rinsing it was easy. The colour looked good initially, but faded after a couple of washes so it would be good as a temporary but wouldn’t use for a more permanent result.

Best dye I have used!
I love directions hair colour, and I have been using it for over 20 years. All directions colours can be mixed with other directions colours to make your own ideal shade. I currently have plum and dark tulip mixed together at the back of my head, and deep purple at the front. They complement each other so well! The colours last well on my non bleached hair (naturally mid blonde). I wash with cool water to help my colour stay longer. Hot water and strong shampoo like anti dandruff types help remove colour. It is really easy to use! You just wash your hair with a strong cleansing shampoo, and for best results I find drying my hair first helps it last longer on me. I then use a small tint brush and put it on my hair where I want it. I wrap my hair with a plastic bag and then forget about it for a couple of hours. Watch TV, do dishes, read a book... then I rinse it off with cool water until the water runs clear. I make sure to pay attention to rub my roots while rinsing. No shampoo is required at that point, and itbis really conditioning and my hair always feels in great condition after using it! Love this dye, and their commitment to using vegan ingredients (I have allergies) and not testing on animals.

Not for the faint hearted..or pink haters!
Oh my word! This has to be the strongest colour in the world, and I am no stranger to the Directions colours.I was aiming for a hint of pink in my hair which is fighting a battle with the bleach.I was trying to be kind and only used 30% vol developer, but it backfired and I got the dreaded yellow roots on much lighter mid to end section, and was bored of playing russian roulette with purple this that and the other to try and even things out,so I went and tinted the rest darker to match and thought,I know,a bit of pink will make a change..... So this dark tulip arrived and I was in love.A proper pink, not a bit of orange in sight (Its a thing I have, blame my brother,I hate orange red) I always mix Directions with a bit (OKI a lot) of conditioner at first, just to get a feel for the colour, this possibly saved my life (Joke...maybe) In a wild reckless moment I dollopped conditioner on my hand, dipped my ring finger almost to the end of the nail (See,daring stuff) and introduced deep tulip to some deep creamy mounds of conditioner. Then everything went very quiet. As my finger escaped there was a deep trail of proper pink.Proper STRONG pink.I rubbed my hands together and OH MY ......(use your imagination, and yes it rhymes with look) my hands turned deep pink.Deep, deep pink. Well I had to did'nt I? I could not waste this amazingly pink goo.I slapped both hands on my head and the pink kind of ran through my fingers, all the way to the ends of my hair.I was not wearing gloves and thats when I saw my hands and panicked, they too where the deepest pink....so what the heck was on my near white recently bleached hair??You have never seen me get the shower blasting so fast before. So now, about a week later, the palms of my hands had an entertaing day or so,but nothing big,my hair on the other hand..WOW.
