How thick are the ropes?

They are thicker than the look of the picture. Not exactly sure of the size but they are very strong, my daughter who is 12 still can use it for a tree swing.

How strong is this rope? is it only for kids, or will it be ok for big adults (up to about 100kg or 15.5 stone)?

The rope is fine, its the metal connection that might not be strong enough....but you don't necessarily need to use that to attach it to the tree. Has been ok up to 13.5 stone so far.

How do you tie the rope to the tree branch? My branch is not reachable even with a ladder!

oh, not sure. I manage to tied mine by standing on the ladder and throw one end up.
