Still Buggy After All These Years
I have been using Quicken since the DOS days. The more I use Quicken 2018, the more bugs I find.. I run Windows 7, arguably the most stable OS MS ever produced, and a Dell Latitude i5 laptop that is rock solid. I've never used a program that has more bugs in it than Quicken 2018. I was so hoping for improvement now that Quicken separated from Intuit. Not happening. Here's a sample of some of the bugs that come to mind readily:1. The account download locks up periodically. The program becomes "unresponsive" and must be killed using Task Manager.2. The data transfer from my old version (Quicken 2015) didn't work correctly so my Bill Pay module is now missing many monthly bills. I used to rely on this feature heavily. Now I can't.3. The Bill Pay section is a FUBAR. They try to get you to "Link" accounts online but it doesn't work and if tried you will find that it takes minutes to update. I'm trying to use the Manual bill pay method that they put back in as an afterthought. It is lousy. My old Q2015 was rock solid on bill pay. Now, in Q2018, it is broken. Bills I've paid still show as unpaid. Bills that are unpaid are simply gone. This module is almost useless now. I had to make a spreadsheet to make sure I paid my bills on time because I can't rely on Quicken anymore to help with that. Very disappointing.4. I have one account, home mortgage, that when I try to open it, it crashes the program.5. The calendars in Bill Pay don't show more than 90 days no matter what I do.6. The Projected Balance graph goes out 90 days and then drops to zero. I used to rely on this graph but if bills are missing, it is not accurate.7. If it runs into an error on downloading account info, you cannot fix it without crashing the program. Manually accessing the same account web site shows no issues with logging in.It is a shame that Quicken is the only program out there that allows money management to the degree it was designed to. It is also a shame that it is such a mess. I used MS Money for a time until MS stupidly removed support for it. Then back to buggy Quicken. Also, why isn't this in the cloud? I've tried Mint but it doesn't have nearly the features Quicken has but I need to revisit that. So we are stuck with a buggy program that hasn't improved even though Quicken separated from Intuit. My brother uses Q2017 and doesn't see any of these issues. I received an update this week. I just checked some of the known issues above and see that the Projected Balance is now working. But none of these other bugs have been fixed. If I could find a program, in the cloud or desktop that does bill pay, interfaces with my online bank, brokerage and credit card accounts and reliably reports on all, I would change in a heartbeat. FYI the only reason I bought this "subscription" is because I was using Q2015 and Quicken stops supporting their programs after three years. This means no account downloads so no choice but to upgrade. Other reviewers that have granted 4 and 5 stars to this program must be Quicken employees or simply don't use it or rely on it heavily like I do. BTW, I have the Home, Business and Rental Property version. I haven't tried the rental property module yet but plan on doing so before tax filing time. Hope that works as that's why I bought this version.Update. I spent the afternoon after writing this and being fired up, organizing my accounts in Mint. Mint now has bill pay and it works slick. I was bound to Bank of America, a company I have an attitude about, because they had Direct Connect to Quicken. With Mint you can connect and draw on any checking account at any bank to pay any bill. Big deal for me. Had all my accounts connected along with any online billing account with 90 minutes. Iām impressed.Q2018 Update: Found more bugs. If Q2018 decides that it can't connect to a previously working account, there is NO WAY to fix it. Repairing the account in Tools doesn't work. Deactivating the account doesn't work either. I had to change an account login name for Mint which totally messed up the account in Quicken as there was NO WAY to change login ID, in view of the above. In order to fix this, I ADDED the account to Q2018. In the process, I was offered a Link to an existing account, which I expected. So I linked it to my dead credit card account and sure enough, Q2018 duplicated 1226 transactions. All of that will have to be fixed before tax reporting season.Another bug. Q2018 has suddenly forgotten some of my categories for account assignments. Now when I download account info, it puts in {[] square brackets in the category field.Another bug. My car and home insurance is debited from my checking account and has been for years. Suddenly Q2018 has entered these transactions in one of my credit card accounts instead of checking. An new bug: Cleared transactions in checking suddenly don't show cleared. I reconcile checking at least once/week. Found these errors in checking account downloading from BOA. Even bills paid through Quicken 2018 with proper catefories assigned, are changed when updated by a bank download. I've been with BOA for 17 years so nothing new there. And, it worked in Q2015.My transaction categories are getting more and more corrupt. Checking account data is going into credit card accounts. This thing is totally out of control and unreliable. Still impressed with Mint even though have used it for less than two weeks.

Its interface consistency from version to version has been very good, not forcing users to learn lots of new ...
I've used Quicken since its early DOS versions and I am a true supporter of the product. Its interface consistency from version to version has been very good, not forcing users to learn lots of new menus or commands as the product has evolved. That being said, the difference between Quicken 2017 and 2018 doesn't give solid cause for upgrading. The features (at least those that probably 99% of users rely on) don't appear to have been enhanced. The major change, forcing Home and Business users into the Home/Business/Rental property product is probably pointless for most, unless it is someone renting many properties or units. Home and Business has done a fine job for me over the years, managing three small businesses and one rental property, and would have been fine into the future. There are a number of important enhancements that I have requested, over many versions, that have never seen the light of day, and the product's often-slow opening speed has not been improved upon significantly. My take on it is that Quicken's developers and designers are much more concerned with tossing a few shiny bells and whistles in, but not responding to customer desires. That is too bad, but Quicken is still the best product out there.I wouldn't want to have to switch to any other financial management package.

Serious 2018 bug
This program has a severe problem with the year change to 2018. The program stopped running on 1/1/18, and all Quicken will say is that they are working on the problem. I have been unable to use the program at all for over a week into the new year.On top of that, Quicken has been deleting criticism on their Quicken Community related to this problem. Can anyone recommend a good alternative?

Program does not work after 1/1/2018.
This product ceased working on 1/1/2018. The company website is deleting feedback from other customers and does not have a projected date for a fix to the problem. Beginning on 1/1/2018 the program would fail to open past a grey screen and a spinning circle, locking up everything on the computer. After doing a lot of research and experimentation, I have gotten the program to load by doing the following: Restart the computer and change the date to 12/31/2017. Then I restarted Quicken and deleted all of my budgets and deleted all of the automatic billing updates. That allowed me to access my information and I can update my checking account information. The company has been zero help, has provided no information regarding any potential program fixes or updates. Their phone help is rudimentary at best and forces you to do a variety of tasks that have no effect of resolving the problem. My subscription expires in March 2020.

Maybe I should have waited to update and saved some Money!
Well first off, I purchased this on Saturday and on Sunday, i notice the price is reduced by $41, so a bit disturbed by that. I think i should receive a reimbursement. I installed this software on Sunday. The install went very easy, but when i tried to open my file I kept getting a Protected File error. Could not find anything on the site about this and apparently no support over the weekend, but I was able to open quicken by moving my data file, then pointing to the location where the file now resided and for some reason it opened? I don't understand why this worked, but it did. Leaving the file in the location where it originally was kept giving me the error. I would ask for the password and accepted the input of the password and then started to convert the file, then i would get the Protected File error. Still having issues getting some of my cards to sync to mobile, i was wishful that this version would address these issues, but appears it still does not. Keep having issues with Bank of America, Capital One and Barclays. They will not sync to mobile. Not a lot of updates that i can really see so far in 2018. Time will tell if it was worth the investment. Still peeved that the price dropped one day after my purchase.

Fundamentally broken - quicken servers have issues, and you can't access your local data.
*When* it works, it's not a terrible product. I've been using Quicken in various forms for 25 years now. It's had ups & downs and issues, but this has a single, fundamental flaw.

Surprisingly, not a single problem yet with this upgrade.
I've been using Quicken since it first appeared. I held off on purchasing the upgrade as long as possible, fearing the glitches for which Quicken has become notorious.

Design for small business
So far, I like QuickBooks a lot. I use it for my small business. The only drawback I see is the way it handles the inventory

Garbage!
This program is total garbage. Have used quicken for 20 years or so and loved it. Downloaded this version when my last version started getting wonky and have nothing but problems.
