Waterman Fountain Pen Ink, Intense Black, 50ml Bottle, For Refillable Fountain Pens

For those of us who are fountain pen snobs, I really like this ink. It is very dark, flows well, and is relatively easy to load a pen. My only negative is that the bottle design is lacking, makes it difficult to see inside to see where the pen tip is in relation to the ink when loading. That’s small potatoes based on the quality of the ink. I’ve had good luck with it so far as it’s a moderately wet ink that flows nicely and dries exceedingly fast. Works good and all of my newer pens and my older ones as well. A nice middle of the road in ink.

What a difference an ink makes. Waterman Intense Black is a great ink. It’s not as black black as I expected an ink with a name like Intense Black to be, but its interpretation of black is pretty great. I then began to see why some pen enthusiasts are also ink enthusiasts and have multiple shades of black from multiple manufacturers along with multiple other colors swatched in fancy notebooks with fancy paper I never heard of before. Count me in. I write a lot. Mainly, until recently in the notes app on my phone but pen and paper and ink while analog deepen the connection I have with the words I write. I’ve written with 2 different pens with this ink. A W&B extra fine nibbed pen and a Pilot MR Animal White Tiger with a medium nib. The pens write differently. Though you’d need a micrometer to measure the differences. Even though the ink is the same the pens left different lines and swoops. I liked the ink out of the W&B pen a hairline better. The ink arrived well packaged, on time and ready to be dispensed. The bottle looks great where I write. The bottle designed to be tipped on its side to be able to draw as much ink as possible shows me Waterman cared about its end users experience without gouging them, which makes me like them even more. I’m a fan Waterman.

Can't find fountain pen ink in many local stores. Good price. Good ink. Fast delivery. If you like using a fountain pen, waterman provides excellent writing performance.

Waterman is a reputed brand. Long past I used both Waterman fountain pen and ink as a student and liked them. Much later, in my thirties I switched to Mont Blanc Noblesse gold-plated fountain pen with 750 18 ct. gold nib and Mont Blanc black ink. Now I have the pen but not the ink. So I bought Waterman, which costs half of Mont Blanc. The glass bottle is OK but the container box is made of flimsy thin board and the bottle came out of it during transport. On the whole I am happy. The ink is black but I won't call it intense black. While I write, the ink flows generously through the nib, perhaps a little more than I would like. The ink dried fairly quickly. I put the ink to water splash test. The text survived but lost the original black and did not look as good as the one I wrote with ordinary ball pen. See them in the photo. Update: After my initial test of the ink, I further wrote a page or two with this ink but I am now confirmed that the colour of the ink is not intense black that I needed. So it does not suit my purpose, although others may like it. New Update I have bought another brand of ink but found that no better in terms of black colour. Splash test is also about the same. So I now give Waterman 4-star instead of 3.

I had purchased another brand that was less expensive, which clogged my pen with a sediment, Waterman is the one to buy.

This isn't my favorite black ink but it is good. I use it in my Waterman Carene. The quality is good. to me it has some grey in it a little more than I would like. but over all a good quality ink that seems to have a little water resistance once dried. I dont smell anything from it other thank the ink. I do like the bottle design, you can tilt it on its side to help fill pens. That is well thought out. over all it's a good ink for its price.

Waterman Black is my #1 ink and I have hundreds from which to choose. It performs perfectly in fountain pens at flow, consistency, coverage, wetness and has become the ink I use to test new pens. These days it has a permanent home in a medium nib and a stub nib. No other ink can boast of that honor though Waterman Mysterious Blue comes close. If I were to recommend two inks to someone new to fountain pens, Waterman Black and Mysterious Blue would be the ones.

New Review – July 2025 This is my second purchase of this product. I purchased several fountain pens last year and this fountain pen ink. I have started using the fountain pen again and have really been working very hard to improve my penmanship. I used to have very nice handwriting but then I went to college. So much notetaking over the many years seemed to destroy my penmanship. I have been trying to improve my abilities, but the process is slow. All of that said, I do enjoy using the fountain pen and this product works quite well. I still have to learn that it does take some time for the ink to dry and if you violate the needed time span you will get smears and smudges. I have also found that writing on cheap paper will allow the ink to bleed through the cheap paper and onto the backside. Bank checks seem to have this issue so I am back to using a ball-point pen for check writing. I think this is a really good product and I will continue to use it to improve my handwriting. I just hope that I can truly improve. Original Review – September 2024 I just received and tried this product (50ml bottle) with a new fountain pen. It works wonderfully in the pen. I just need to work on my penmanship. Actually, I really need to work on my penmanship at great deal. I am told I write like a doctor. That is not a compliment. I have got to improve. Great product.

Tinten von Waterman haben im allgemeinen den Ruf, sich im Füllfederhalter besonders «gut zu benehmen»: der Tintenfluss ist regelmäßig und zuverlässig, und der Füller lässt sich leicht von Tintenresten reinigen. Die schwarze Tinte von Waterman ist, im Vergleich zu anderen Farben dieser Marke, wasserresistenter (wenn man schnell dabei ist, hält sie ein paar Regentropfen oder einen umgekippten Tee aus, ohne gleich gant weggewaschen zu werden). Auch ist sie, wie andere Waterman-Tinten, 'dünner' als z.B. handelsübliche Tinten von u.a. Pelikan oder Lamy, weswegen sie in eher trocken fließenden Füllern angenehmer in dr Verwendung ist. Dabei ist sie im Vergleich zu anderen Marken auch preiswert. Das einzige, was man Waterman Schwarz vorwerfen könnte, ist dass sie nicht wirklich tief schwarz ist, sondern eher sehr tief dunkelgrau – was aber meinem Geschmack sehr gut passt und einen sanfteren Eindruck macht.

You don't need to spend a fortune on boutique inks to get excellent results. The Performance: It's a solid, reliable, affordable, well-behaved ink that behaves perfectly in vintage and modern pens alike. The Color & Flow: The black is deep and consistent, providing excellent lubrication for a smooth writing experience every time the nib touches paper. For the price and quality, this 50 ml bottle is an unbeatable value. I will definitely keep this stocked in my collection.

Not a great deal to say, I like to do washes on the ink sketches and this brand has a perfect neutral black when thinned down. As you do not want a blue or warm tone in your black. They are indeed strong and perfect for a fountain pen for writing if you are like me! When the bottles are half empty, they can be turned on their side for easy access. recommended
