Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up, whisks Wendy Darling and her brothers, John and Michael, off to Neverland to take care of the Lost Boys and battle with Captain Hook’s pirate crew. This beautiful edition contains stunning illustrations and interactive elements from MinaLima. One of my favourite things about reading the original versions of such well-known fairytales is actually seeing how accurate Disney’s representation was. Of course, there are elements that have been changed in the various movie versions, but on the whole, Disney’s version is remarkably close to Barrie’s original story. Unfortunately, Barrie’s writing has become rather dated. There are some seriously outdated social views represented throughout the story, particularly in relation to male and female roles, and his treatment of the Native Americans. It’s important to remember that this book was written over 100 years ago, and we have thankfully come a long way since then. Having said that, the narrative style is lovely and the story really is magical, if a little bizarre (Mr Darling refusing the leave Nana’s kennel while the children are gone?). There are some really excellent elements that I was never aware of before, such as the only way of telling the time in Neverland being to follow the crocodile around until the clock chimes inside it, and Hook’s absolute dedication to “good form”. As ever, the illustrations from Minalima are gorgeous. They really bring the story to life and make a classic fairytale even more special.

Purchased for the impending arrival of a nephew - his nursery is Peter Pan themed, bought to start his library off right! This is a beautiful edition of this timeless classic - came sealed and in perfect condition. Once unwrapped, we were able to see the level of details within this book - extras that are interactive and add so much to the book overall. The pages are of high quality, and this is true of the book overall. It is a weighty product, which only adds tot he feeling of quality. This will be placed on a shelf for now, and read to the baby and his siblings.

Nice book with lots of nice touches and art, along with a good story

Firstly the quality of this book is unreal, so much attention has been spent on the details. I only ever thought there was one Peter Pan story ie. Disneys, but found the book has within its pages several versions of the classic tale with Disney's only being one of them. Hidden amongst the pages are treats for the imagination in the form of little fold out maps, pull tabs and picture wheels not to mention the old school library card within the first few pages. This would make a great bedtime story book, it looks great on the shelf and I can only see it go up in value over the years to come. Enjoy

La couverture rigide et en relief donne un aspect ancien agréable à l’œil et au toucher. Les pages sont ponctuées d'illustrations ou d'éléments supplémentaires interactifs (ex : carte à déplier) qui permettent de se plonger totalement dans l'histoire. Cela aide à focaliser l'attention des plus jeunes pour les faire s'intéresser à la lecture en piquant leur curiosité et c'est tout aussi appréciable pour les adultes qui pourront s'attacher aux détails. Amateurs de beaux livres, n'hésitez pas à l'ajouter à votre collection, surtout pour un prix si bas ! Quant à l’œuvre en elle-même, les enfants reconnaîtront un dessin animé classique que les plus grands pourront comparer avec cette version originale. L'anglais reste accessible pour qui a l'habitude de lire un peu ou de regarder des films / série dans la langue de Shakespeare. Quelques mots auront peut-être besoin d'être traduits mais c'est une bonne occasion d'enrichir son vocabulaire.
