So is the true denier rating for this tarp?

Vendor lists as 70D and it looks and feels it. The tarp does a great job of keeping you dry in a downpour. Keep in mind it is a lightweight tarp and needs to be treated as such.

I’m looking for good UV protection and shade from the hot sun to go over my camper. How would this do for those purposes?

This will work well to block the sun. Make sure the tarp is slightly larger than your camper roof. The only downside I see is the sun will eventually degrade the tarp. This will happen to any tarp or covering you use. You could probably use a much cheaper blue tarp from a discount store for the same purpose. The AquaQuest is a great tarp for camping and backpacking but the quality and price is a bit of overkill for shading a camper.

How is it the 13x10 tarp wieghts 2.4lb and 10x7 is 2.3lb ?

Is there a chance you are comparing the Safari 13x10ft against the Defender 10x7ft?The Defender Series has a much heavier coating than the Safari Series.The Safari 10x7ft weights 1.25lbs.Hope that helps!Christina
