I finally got round to upgrading my PC based CCTV system to this Annke DW81KD system. As I'd purchased the 2TB model, it was pretty much plug and play. Setting up the remote access is made much easier by downloading the Annke Vision app (on Android) and just scanning the QR code given on the CCTV system. There is some set up stuff you need to do, such as camera modes/record modes etc. If you are not very technical you may need to refer to the manual which is available on the Annke website. I did email Annke and with a query and they replied back quite quickly and were very helpful. Not that the system is set up and configured, it just works, and I just just forget about it, knowing its working away doing that it needs to, just in case. The app works great on Android and its easy enough to review recordings from whichever camera you select. The PC app for Windows (Annke Vision) works fine, but you have to sign in and it does take a bit of getting used to, and setting up to display it how you want. All in all, a great system for the price, and the software is simple enough to use and just works. I did purchase another system from another manufacturer (Zosi) and whilst their hardware is as good, the software is poor and not as easy to use. I would certainly recommend Annke CCTV hardware and software, and would purchase an Annke CCTV system again should I ever need another one.

Good product quite difficult to get set up

I bought this as a cheaper replacement for a long-held good quality CCTV DVR. At first the ANNKE one seemed just about OK and I persevered with it for more than 18 months, but I eventually gave up and bought a better one again. I decided that it had been a false economy. I thought that the instructions were poorly written and even although I understand quite a lot about these devices, I found the ANNKE instructions difficult to follow. Also, the direct connection interface was significantly different from the networked one. I keep my DVR in a difficult to access place, and there were some important changes that I just couldn’t implement via remote access. I had a number of minor issues with The ANNKE machine and it still provided live access to my cameras but the last straw was when it but stopped letting me see any recorded video, either by date and time or via motion detection alarms (a pretty useless situation for a DVR). It didn’t report any faults and all the settings seemed fine. It was still filling up the disc and although It was set to overwrite old data I eventually resorted to manually deleting data, and even reformatting; but that didn’t help. In the end I was glad to be rid of it.

I chose Annke because I have had previous experience of their excellent customer service. The size of the hard drive and the overall quality of Annke also appears to me to be higher than the average for a CCTV drive. I have previously had to replace hard drives about every 2 years on average. I was expecting plug and play and it would have worked had I not missed a stage where the smart setup wizard kicked in. Having missed it I was unable to go back and so had to set up everything manually so it took longer. I am giving 4 stars because I still believe that this hard drive and box appear to be a cut above average quality. The documentation was poor (it seemed like a typical quick translation form Chinese) and so that aspect was disappointing and could be easily improved.
