Wonderful!
This book was a panic buy - I was on holiday with my 4 children and had forgotten their favourite bedtime stories. I rushed into an English bookshop in the Algarve, grabbed the first book that looked suitable and read it, that afternoon, to 3 of the kids (16 months, 3 years & 6 years). I haven't stopped reading it since! My 16 month old points to the beautiful illustrations and babbles constantly, my 3 year old is fascinated and talks about the book all the time (he even imagines he's the little boy) and my 6 year old really enjoyed the story and was delighted when he spotted the penguin (apparently from the book Lost & Found which he'd read at school). The story is original and just seems to capture the childrens' imaginations beautifully. Don't hesitate - buy this book! I'm now going to order some other books by this author!

Lovely children’s book that can be enjoyed by young and old
I love this book! The illustrations are beautiful and the story can be enjoyed by all ages. I’ve used this story in school for teaching children ages 3-7. Loneliness, friendship and kindness are all prominent topics which are great for discussing with young children.

Beautifully Produced Books
Beautifully produced books with sturdy covers, and good paper pages, lovely illustrations and best of all a great story. And, considering the price of books very inexpensive.

Enthralled
Yes my little one is too young to read, but can still point and ask, 'What's that' at the beautiful pictures, and it's long enough to calm him down of an evening before bed, but short enough to keep his interest. Yes, I agree with some others who have said, it's not the most exciting of books, but I still feel it's more than worth a four, almost a five but as it's up against books like the Gruffalo, which deserve a five, (despite it being a retelling in sorts of an old Aesops's fable) I can't give this full marks, four and a half would be about right. Great illustrations, simple story and keeps my under 2 's attention 'til the end.

Beautiful story
Great picture book. This was purchased for a literacy unit to be taught to Year 2 children and the opportunities for teaching different skills and genres with this book are fantastic. For example, there is a page of just illustrations where the boy is getting ready to fly the plane which lends itself to instruction writing. Also a good book for engaging the boys and most of all a beautiful story.

Such a great story supporting friendship and caring!
I love this story, not only does it touch on space but safety and friendship! It’s a lovely story about helping people which is quite funny in parts. A good storyteller can make the absolute most out of this book. It’s now a firm favourite for my class of 3 year olds but would suit from 2-6 yrs.

2.5 year old loves it - highly recommend
Our son loves the Oliver Jeffers books. He is nearly 2.5 years old and this is by far his favourite one. This is definitely more age appropriate for him compared to some of this authors other books which are a bit lengthier and more complex for this age group.

This is an amazing book! Spike the imagination of a 4yr old incredibly. He already had the pages memorized, the next day. An airplane running out of gas, and a spaceship with a broken engine .. right down my 4 yr old’s alley !!

My 3 year old son really loves this book and other books written by Oliver Jeffers. I read his books to my son every night and he is so engaged. We can finish 3 books in a row. So glad that I have come across his books and read it to my son, it was worth it!

I love that it's an actual story. So many books nowadays have just a word or two on each page. This is perfect for little ones, a sentence per page on average. Very cute story. I have several from this author, and so far all are great. Oh and check out the lost and found movie or book, super cute
