So far so good and on line to finish the lap quilt. It is a great way to use up all those scraps of fabric that you didn't want to throw away. Easy to read and enjoyed the stories/letters that accompany the quilt squares. It is a brilliant sampler book and plenty of choice if some of the blocks look complicated or fiddly. I have thoroughly enjoyed dipping into the book and soon the number of blocks grow. Printing off the templates from the cd are simple to access. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great stories, beautiful blocks *by T***E on 22 March 2013* I like samplers! I came across this book a time ago and I didn't like the colors of the blocks. Last year I bought the book and I love it. The letters are nice to read and the blocks are great. If you want a sampler quilt you should try this one. And if you like me don't like the colors of the fabrics used just change them ;) There are no instructions so if you're a new quilter you should start with the easy blocks. There are several groups on the internet working on the FWS so you might consider joining one of them. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Read a little, stitch a little *by E***R on 13 March 2010* I'm enjoying browsing through the blocks and reading some of the letters, and noting that whilst the wives all seem to want their daughters to marry farmers, their reasons are quite varied, most happy to accept the inventions of the day which made their lives easier such as the telephone, car, lighting, running water etc, but all desiring to keep their family life and values firmly rooted in the past. The letters generally point to the contentment which comes from being satisfied with their lot, however lacking this may seem to be to the "city folks" out there chasing the dime. The blocks themselves are all finished at 6" x 6" and although the author enjoyed piecing them by hand they can easily be machined. All use templates and these are on a CD. The one very annoying thing about this is that every single template is given separately, and each of them has to be printed on a separate sheet of paper - so much better if the templates for each block had been given together. (UPDATE 29th Aug 2010-- I have used Paint Shop Pro to print 6 to 8 of the templates onto one sheet - leave a comment if you'd like the details to enable you to do this, correct ratio is maintained)Reproduction fabrics were used to make the quilt in the book and it would have been interesting to see this made in modern day ones for comparison.I think you would need some experience of patchwork and quilting before starting this book, but not a great deal, just the basic general points which are usually found in almost every other book on this subject.A real disappointment for me is that the winning letter is not shown, nor the second nor the third - as the list of winners are given it would have been very interesting to compare their letters to those which are used in the book. ## Frequently Bought Together - The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt: 55 Letters and the 111 Blocks They Inspired - The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt: Inspiring Letters from Farm Women of the Great Depression and 99 Quilt Blocks That Honor Them - The Farmer's Wife Homestead Medallion Quilt: Letters From a 1910's Pioneer Woman and the 121 Blocks That Tell Her Story --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.jp/products/48811016-the-farmers-wife-sampler-quilt-55-letters-and-the-111](https://www.desertcart.jp/products/48811016-the-farmers-wife-sampler-quilt-55-letters-and-the-111) --- *Product available on Desertcart Japan* *Store origin: JP* *Last updated: 2026-10-15*
