I will have to agree with others.
One of the most interesting things I ask myself, is, "why do I watch movies?" "What am I looking for?" "What am I seeking?" I watched this movie after I made myself lunch because I wanted a distraction and a template that would allow me to focus on something else while I ate. This movie, hands down a piece of art. Is this movie a hollywood blockbuster? No. And I am glad this movie is not. With the budget of this movie, I am truly impressed with how this movie turned out. This movie made my heart beat slower.. and then faster... and then slower. As you watch the movie, you see that the main character of the story begins to uncover many things about themselves and begins to experience what the reader/viewer perceives as, character development. Watch this movie. There is so much going on in this movie. So many thoughts. So many emotions. So many stories coming together to still center and focus on the main character is a phenomenal job done. Bravo everyone involved in making this movie! Truly, Bravo! I agree with others, this movie is definitely an honest revelation to "love."

THERE ARE MANY DEFINITIONS OF "KEPT"
This story of a "kept boy" has more substance than one might think when considering the title on its own. It is a real "human" story that shows how true love can manifest itself even though the beginnings of a relationship were based upon monetary considerations and sexual usage. Once again, the complexities of bonding between two people is revealed to be something that is far from simple, and things are not always what they seem. The concern over the possibility of being tossed aside for a younger replacement, the fear of losing what was once bought and now is more meaningful, jealousy, and misunderstanding are all well presented without being trite. The star of this film and its subject, played by Jon Paul Phillips, has the necessary good looks but also has depth. One feels that you are watching the unfolding lives of real people who are relatable and can conjure empathy. While there is nudity (no frontal) in this film and the sex is not hard core, both have a relevant place in the story it is trying to tell. I would give it a soft R. My only criticism of this film is that it seemed rushed and could have been fleshed out more prior to what turned out to be a somewhat surprising but not necessarily unexpected ending.

Interesting take, but don't expect any redeeming character traits
Plainly, the story did indeed feel a bit genuine; but not from the emotion the director would have us believe the characters have. The actor themselves did an excellent job of conveying who these people were; but if there was any expectation that the audience should "feel" for the characters, a lot was missing. There was no redeeming quality about the protagonist or any of the other supporting characters to be honest; with the exception of the one I believe we were supposed to hate. But still, nothing that made me WANT any of them to have a happy ending. I've seen films with a similar premise and I was rooting one way or another for the characters involved; here, it just seemed like being a fly on the wall to what I feel is a glimpse into a real world scenario. Now, I love movies that are honest; but it seemed like the director or writer wanted the audience to "root" for the protagonist in some way. But I never felt that, not even a little; despite being very sympathetic to his predicament in before watching the film.

The actors were legit
Films with a smaller budget usually come off corny or lack talent. I feel that this movie rose above those 2 stigmas. Don't be afraid to watch this!! I fell in love with the friends and the main characters. It was well thought out. It's endearing and real. there's little tidbits of gay humor at the pool party in the first part of the film .... until things start to get real and the humor changes into the drama, with emotions all over the place. So don't let these over bearing "critiques" mislead you too much. I've seen horrible movies with A-List actors. I give all movies a chance.... and if I find it not keeping my attention, then I move on. But truly ... this movie made me cry a few times. Which never happens. So that's saying a lot about these actors and the genuine portrayal of their characters.

Definitely Real
I could feel the real people in this movie. It is very well acted by everyone; it is very believable, and the movie is very well filmed. Some of the dialogue is a bit slow but towards the end you realize it is intentional. The story is well written and a couple of surprises makes the movie well rounded

Pretty People with Depth.
I love this movie, yes this is filled with eye candy but they can act!! They have such electric chemistry. Jon Paul Phillips was an unknown to me before watching this. I look forward to seeing him in other projects. I liked his subtle acting style for the role of Dennis. I have to give props to the supporting cast, they were excellent and helped the story. This is a fun easy watch with some depth. Enjoy this movie for what it is, it doesn't pretend to be something its not.

Surprisingly though-provoking, humorous and satirical.
Surprisingly though-provoking, humorous and satirical. LA can't really be so vacuous and crass, but it's fun to see the stereotyping gone wild. Some universal themes in a gay-oriented world, but cleverly written and full of juxtapositions regarding love, envy, materialism, aging, and life's meanings. Quite entertaining, even if it lacks a moral center. Not everything has to be didactic, and there are redemptive story lines about what really matters in life...

Anstrengender Film
