Misfit (Prep, 1)

Hooked on this series!
Oh man, I have a serious thing for angry chicks. I don’t know what it is about a girl with a chip on her shoulder who looks at me like she wants to kick my teeth in, but it makes my D twitch. 😉4.5 ⭐️This book is a bit of a departure from the other Elle Kennedy books I’ve read (and loved). Misfit Prep is set on an all-boys boarding school campus and has multiple POV chapters from our main guys RJ, Fenn, Lawson, Silas and also Sloane. I really enjoyed this format of storytelling and meeting everyone through their own POVs. It also helped facilitate the storyline and kept it from getting dull. This book introduces us first to RJ and Fenn, who have now become step-brothers. RJ is a delinquent from the wrong side of the tracks, whereas Fenn was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, so they aren’t really on even playing fields when they meet and don’t care to really get to know each other. That is until RJ now has to attend this elite boarding school and has to room with his new brother. RJ is like a fish out of water amongst the rich since he’s so used to being a loner and moving around a lot while his mom had different flings, whereas this is Fenn’s home away from home with his buddies who cause trouble wherever they go…and these boys are trouble with a capital T. Fenn is the pretty boy who’s always up to something, Lawson is the wild card, and Silas on the outside seems the most put together, but looks can be deceiving. Meanwhile RJ is getting to know his surroundings he runs into a girl who is full of snark, just how he likes them. Sloane however is more than just snarky, she is a “I give zero fs” type of girl and will put you in your place without a second thought. RJ and Sloane’s banter was so good and I loved their initial tension and build up. Sloane however does have some issues of her own, specifically what happened to her sister Casey last spring during Prom which becomes the big underlying mystery of the book. We don’t necessarily found out all the details, but hopefully in the next book we will because this does leave off a little cliffhanger-ish and I need a Casey POV and want to see how she ends up with her man 😉.I really enjoyed this book overall and how it had a different feel with the multiple POVs. RJ and Sloane were so good and I still need more of them in the next book. RJ finding a home after all amongst his step-brother and friends was really good to see, his delinquency really just fit right in with the rest of them. Each boy though has many secrets and as this continues we should learn more about. Especially whatever happened to Casey and the accident. Ugh! I really really wish book 2 was already out!

Welcome to the Boarding School of Mystery
MCs: RJ & SloaneGenre: HS Mystery RomanceTropes: Boarding School, Found Family, strong FMC, Hacker MMCRatingsPlot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Spice/Steam: 🌶️🌶️.5Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Do I Recommend: YesWhat a great start to a new series! I typically don't enjoy having so many different perspectives in a story, but I honestly felt it was well done in this case. I never felt like all the perspectives were detracting from the story or taking away precious page time from the main couple. I really enjoyed all the different personalities at play and the group dynamics were great. I loved how much of a badass Sloane was. She was amazingly strong but it was also nice to see a more vulnerable side of her and the highlighted importance of being able to show emotion at times. I enjoyed the ongoing mystery plot regarding prom night and Fenn's best friend Gabe's "disappearance." I absolutely love a MMC who's a hacker, and RJ was no exception.I adored Lawson and his entanglement. I can't help but feel that Silas isn't quite as good of a guy as everyone seems to believe. His relationship with his GF is sus and it definitely seems like he may have more feelings for Sloane than he's willing to admit to. The twist at the end, while I didn't see it coming until almost right before it happened, it made sense and felt like a natural progression of the story. While we hardly have any information about who the person that was in the car with/drugged Casey but right now, my gut, for some reason is telling me it's Silas even though there's no real evidence of that. I can't wait to find out more about the mystery and the other characters in the next book.

An intriguing start to a new series.
I was really looking forward to this new series from Elle Kennedy. I was hoping it would have some Erin Watt Royals vibes (it did) and I was intrigued by the blurb. Did I end up loving it? Not really. I guess I liked it. I'm having a hard time deciding. There were a lot of great things about it, but there was also some stuff that bugged me. The first chapter of Misfit got my attention in the best way. I was instantly into the story and curious as to where it would go. I loved the idea of a boarding school for rich, troubled teenage boys. The atmosphere at the school set a great tone for the story. RJ, our main male MC, was a lone wolf who didn't want to conform to the social constructs of Sandover. He's a hacker who is too cool for school. Despite wanting to avoid everyone and everything, he ends up in his stepbrother Fenn's friend group. I liked his character.Fenn, Silas, and Lawson are the guys who also have POVs. Yes, there are multiple POVs in this book. It worked and it didn't. Each of these four young men is interesting in his own right. Fenn had the hots for a girl he shouldn't. Silas has a girlfriend but it's hard to tell if that's who he's really into. Lawson is a freaking mess who is partaking in drugs and all sorts of sex. All have mommy or daddy issues. I enjoyed getting to know them. Only problem is their POVs slowed down the story/romance between RJ and Sloane. It took so long to build up to anything that I found myself getting bored and having to push myself to keep reading. Which kind of sucked because once I got to all the fun stuff in the last 1/4 of the book, I was ready to be done with it. Honestly, maybe a prologue novella introducing all the guys would have been better and less distracting. It might have been better if it was just RJ and Sloane.Sloane did get her own POV in this book as well. There weren't enough of her chapters to endear her to me, honestly. She was an "ice queen" who was all about hooking up, running, and taking care of her sister. Despite that, I did like her with RJ. Their relationship moved fast but had some sweet moments. I also liked how her ex-boyfriend Duke played into the story. There was also an interesting mystery surrounding something that happened to her sister Casey that I wouldn't have minded spending more time on. I think what it comes down to with Misfit is that there was too much included in one book. Taking out the POVs other than RJ's and Sloane's might have helped. It would have given more time to develop the relationship between RJ and Sloane and moved the story along faster. Each of the other guys is getting their own book anyways. Maybe the multiple POV over the series will make more sense than just in this one book. I don't know. I guess I'll find out later. My favorite parts of this book were the beginning, the characters, and then the end. I'm really curious about these characters and where their story is headed. The last 1/4 of the book had the action I need to be enthralled with the story. It also ended with a cliffhanger I didn't see coming. I was thinking I might not continue the series at one point when I was pushing through, but who am I kidding? I want to know what is going to happen to these guys.

loved the characters
Elle Kennedy really brings a story to life - not the normal college story! Lots of individual stories entwined throughout the book and there is a resolution to all of the character’s stories in very interesting ways. - worth the read

Great book, teenage drama at best!
There's so much drama here, it's best if you read in small doses. I saw some comments about the multiple pov's slowed the story, but only if you want to read it all. If you take a few chapters per day you may enjoy it longer and it ends in a cliffhanger soooo....But I loved the boys friendships in their own way. RJ is my love! My heart goes out to Fenn. Silas gotta make some decisions and Lawson, what are we going to do with this boy? There's so much family drama and daddy issues, which I love! Can't wait for the second book.

Misfit (Prep Book 1)
What can I say.... Elle Kennedy you did it again!!! Loved all the characters. I liked how we were introduced to all of the in this book and were given background for each. RJ and Sloane are couples goals. Can't wait for Rogue where we get to see more of Casey and Fenn.
