Thought provoking
Will changing position regularly help you reach a ripe old age with full health and vitality? A chiropractor friend with a scientific bent sent me an interview with the author and I bought this book on spec.In a nutshell she believes, after working on astronaut physical rehab for NASA, that regular movement is the key to longevity and fitness. After doing an experiment with stand up desks for a few months I'm inclined to agree. Either standing or sitting for long periods I've found I get problems with either joints, posture or weight gain.Since reading this I now implement a move-every-20-minutes regime (I work at my desk four days a week), usually yoga, calisthenics or weights. I'm happier, trimmer and more flexible. She may well be on to something. My only criticism is that it felt a bit long and could have done with a bit of trimming as it begins to feel repetitive quite quickly. Worth a download though.

We all sit way to much and this book really brings it home how it effects us and how small changes can bring huge gains to bette
This book is such a interesting book that everyone should read. It made me realise I need to move more all throughout the day, going to the gym isn't going to be enough to keep me fit well into my older years. We all sit way to much and this book really brings it home how it effects us and how small changes can bring huge gains to better our life styles.

Muscles need to be used
This is a very interesting and instructive book. It is very helpful as it explains the necessity of good exercise, showing how our body muscles need to be used regularly to keep them in good tone. This not only improves our life style phisically but also mentally.

Simple research based suggestions for healthy living
A short and readable book based on Dr. Vernikos' work with the rehabilitation of returned astronauts, who suffer from a long list of fairly serious though reversible health problems. She writes well about the influence of gravity on the functioning of our main body systems, takes in recent research on the damage done by long sessions of sitting (as in writing at a computer!), and makes clear distinctions between the good that regular exercise can do and the good that daily gravity-based activity can do--the two do different things, and are complementary, not alternative. I found the book very useful--as one who suffers from ME/CFS, it has entered into my thinking about how best to use the little energy I have. Short bibliographies are included that enable one to pursue certain key concepts further. Thank you, Dr. Vernikos!

Some of the best things in life, once awareness sets in, are truly free.
I do love this book. After my initial scan I knew I had to plug in the time to really digest what the author had to relate.I did that and started putting into practice what I was learning/relearning as I went along. WOW. Truly, the informationimparted in this book is 'quality of life valuable' and every being out of their babyhood (the naturals) would be giving themselvesa priceless gift by really knowing/understanding the huge life change that is theirs - FREE - for consciously making thiselement of our lives known as 'gravity' our best friend.

Excellent book
Loved it! Practical advice, especially for the senior population about getting fit. If you are not a gym lover, no excuses to not be healthy. Again, very practical movement exercises geared toward each person's lifestyle.Plus it's short. Read it!

A unusual point of view
A unusual point of view about our body, how it is related to gravity and how to improve it.Excellent !Although I prefered the theorical explanation (first half of the book) to the exercices part (but it may be because I already have a lot of gym / musculation / yoga books, so I was more interested in the theory anyway).

Exercise for ill or elderly people, and how to stay fit growing older.
I thought this book was a very interesting view of exercise, or shall we say movement to live by. Coming from a very highly regarded source, a scientist who worked with the astronauts at NASA when they had to get used to gravity again, I think it must be science that should be more well known amongst average people. I was not aware of how important everyday movements are, how they are carried out; and new technology which most certainly could help anyone to retain their health, or regain movement ability after it had been lost. I hope in the near future I will be able to access some of the items mentioned in this book which will I am sure dramatically change my body, and it will certainly help others if they can get access to the items mentioned. This is knowledge that needs to be spread far and wide. Furthermore, more companies and organizations that want to help people be fit really need to read this book! Thank you so much Joan!

Never to Old to Move
Sitting Kills by Joan Vernikos, Ph.D. Quite a different perspective detailing the importance of achieving a healthy lifestyle. Joan Vernikos, PhD. is the former Director of NASA's Life Sciences Division and uses research from NASA to substantiate key point that activity is a fundamental tool to being healthy. The reader is already aware of the fact that life today with all the modern conveniences does not equate with an active lifestyle. Instead it can foster a more sedentary lifestyle. This book presents a guide to living a natural health-sustaining lifestyle. It advocates returning to the fun activities of our childhood. The underlying theme promoting a health-sustaining lifestyle is one's attitude. Being healthy and taking care of one's body should be our primary, personal responsibility. Reading this book helped me to see the importance of incorporating everyday activities like house cleaning, and gardening into my exercise program. When these everyday activities are added the positive healthy results will be multiplied.

Sounds trite I know, but this book changed my life in a very good way.
This book is awesome. I'm totally inspired. I sit all day for work, and now I'm getting up every 15 minutes to at least stretch and move around a bit. I even set a timer to remind me.There's so much information in this book that sometimes it's a bit overwhelming, but hang in there, it's totally worth it to read the entire book. I've gone back to the book several times to refresh my memory and cement the info into my brain. I'm committed to moving more for the rest of my life. The best part is that making some easy, simple changes will really improve my prospects for the future.

I really like this book
I really like this book. Many people live sedentary lives now and even people who go to the gym regularly don't realize how important frequent low intensity movement (walking, standing, stretching) is. This is a quick read and the lessons from it are very easy to grasp and will help you maintain your bone density, muscle strength and overall health.
