The Human Target 2

Great second issue
Love it so far, especially the build up of the mystery. This is one of the more interesting books I've read from the big two in a while.

Compelling Series
The only thing I’m currently buying from DC is comics by Tom King. I finished Rorschach and Strange Adventure and now I’m working on The Human Target. It’s not that I’m some Tom King superfan because I absolutely can recognize when he fails. I just really enjoy how King humanizes characters and quite frankly just about everything else at DC is crap these days. It’s also extremely refreshing that Tom King’s stories can be read with no knowledge of what’s going on in the rest of the DCU. It doesn’t hurt to have some background on the characters, but it isn’t necessary. I’m not even sure his stories are intended to be in continuity. In the previous issue, Christopher (The Human Target) Chance is slipped a lethal poison that was supposedly intended for Lex Luthor. He has 12 days (now 11) to discover who his murderer is. This is basically the plot of the film DOA, but I’m cool with King borrowing an idea. The suspicion falls on someone in the Justice League International, but who. In this issue, Chance is visited by Tora (Ice) Olasfsdotter, a former member of the JLI, who might have a tip to help him in his investigation.Let me start by saying that I LOVE the cover. Definitely one of my all-time favorites in comics. The interior art is likewise fantastic. Ice is drawn absolutely gorgeous. Tom King always takes a very slow pace with his storytelling and this is no exception. The entire comic is basically just Chance and Ice spending the day together. It feels as if Ice may continue to play a large roll in the series. What King is so good at is making me care about characters I never cared about before. I had no opinion on Ice but suddenly I find her compelling and I hope she continues in the series. The Human Target #2 currently has an aggregate 9.1 on 10 professional reviews and an 9.2 user rating on ComicbookRoundup. That gives the series a 9.1 average which ties it for second highest aggregate score among active DC series. That’s a heckuva start. Let’s hope King can continue the momentum.
