Netherlands - Culture Smart! Paperback – 30 Oct. 2003

Being Dutch myself, I did think it was all a bit obvious. More of a general 'How to behave' - guide, than a description of the Netherlands.

Hi,I've started using the Culture Smart series of books at a time when I needed to understand better the Swedish culture for personal reasons. I was very impressed at how insightful the book was. Since then, I have relied on the series anytime I need to learn more about the traditions and mindsets found in a country.I will be moving to the Netherlands in a few months' time and have used this book as a prep. I found that the habits described in the book match very accurately the outlook of several of my Dutch friends.All in all, I found this a great tool for anyone planning to spend some time in the Netherlands, or simply looking to improve his/her relationships with the Dutch.I hope this helps.

I have lived in the netherlands. I. Married a Dutchman and was subjected to the most racist arrogant country I have ever known. Very disrespectful towards woman and very true to the saying (if you are not Dutch you are not much.)

I have just purchased and read this book and predict that it will become the "must have" read for visitors and those considering relocating to the Netherlands.The author includes so much information and essential knowledge for those wanting to know how to behave and interact with the Dutch people.It is amazing how much the customs vary throughout Europe and the Netherlands is one of those countries where you really must know the right way to communicate in order to integrate successfully.I congratulate the author for making this such an easy and informative read and I highly recommend it to anyone considering "going Dutch"!!

Review of the book "Netherland - Culture Smart! The essential guide to the Netherlands. The book arrived after being or order for about 10 days. It was in superb condition. It is providing me good information on this beautiful country that I'm looking forward to visiting in the very near future.

I read this before my trip to the Netherlands, it was quite helpful. Even tho I thought I knew something of the culture through family & friends, being there and knowing OF it are two completely different things. It's definitely worth the money, my son thought so, too.

Great book, explains everything about the Netherlands in only a few pages!

This is an excellent book as brief introductory book into a country, its people and culture.

It's written in friendly and easy tone. But it does not contain many useful things for travelers.

This is a good book for finding out generalities about Dutch culture and customs. The book is written more particularly from a British perspective--and the author seems a bit uncomfortable with some of her subject matter, such as sexuality. Howeer, it is informative and interesting and easy to read through. There is some very good information and some good details and anecdotes, as well.

I think the author could've fit more information into this book. However, it accomplishes its goal to be concise and to the point. This isn't going to make you an instant expert on the Netherlands, but it definitely clears things up regarding social behavior and background. I would advise re-reading this during a trip to the Netherlands and/or after. There are a few generalized explanations that will go over your head until you experience them in person. My Dutch partner read parts of this too, and agreed it described him perfectly.

I like this series of books. Worth it for a quick tips on each country

Lots of local info

This is an excellent overview of the Dutch culture.It is informative and gives specific details of how the Dutch people conduct themselves at home, at work, and at play. Understand, however, that this is NOT a traditional visitor's guide to The Netherlands, in that it does not have maps and places of interest for the vacationer. This is solely a culture primer.

a good read...easy...and fun...informative but relaxed reading....

This is an amazing little book; wish I had purchased it earlier. It is factual, interesting, and a quick read. It is especially helpful for those who are going to travel in the Netherlands, but also a good book for those who want to know more about where they may have already traveled. Great little reference.

Accurate and informative

I like the way it is structured and the variety of topics, these, were short and helpful which make an easy and enjoyable read.
