Fosi Audio K5 Pro Gaming DAC Headphone Amp, HiFi Headphone Amplifier 1000mw

I have an Edifier T5 subwoofer connected to a pair of R1280Ts. When connected directly to the computer's 3.5mm output, the subwoofer was uncontrollable - it shook the house no matter what I did to the volume, EQs, whatever. I had to basically turn it off. Now, I run a USB cable from the PC to the K5, and RCA cables from the K5 to the subwoofer, and more RCA cables from the subwoofer to the speakers. After setting the low-pass filter on the subwoofer to just over where the speakers drop off, the sound is crystal clear with bright highs and thrumming lows (without dominating the whole sound). The fact that I can instantly control the bass and treble on the K5 is a huge plus. I am thrilled with the K5, and it was a very cheap solution to get the most out of my not-so-cheap speakers. edit: Okay so its not PERFECT. This is going to take some explanation. If you're planning on using powered speakers on a PC, this applies to you. Everything was fine until my GPU (RTX 2080) came into play (firing up a game). The computer began sending a ton of interference down the USB connection to the F5. More expensive units I'm told can filter this out, but the K5 can't. Now this isn't necessarily the K5's fault. Computers are electrically noisy, and if I replaced my PSU, motherboard, GPU, or all three, that might solve the issue. Since that would be insane, I instead opted to power the K5 through a source other than the PC (outlet will do fine) and use the optical input (toslink) for data. Since toslink uses light to transmit the data, it is immune to EMI interference. Perfect sound. The only downside is my audio is running through my Realtek onboard audio again now; which I'm not thrilled with, but really isn't a problem. If you're using headphones, this probably won't be an issue. And again, this really isn't a knock on the K5, they do say they're for headphones and not powered speakers (probably because they don't have the electronics to filter out the type of noise I'm describing), but if you're planning on using this device for speakers, just a heads up on the USB audio combined with a powerful GPU. On a final note, I did hack a USB cable, cut the power/gnd from the PC and connect that to another USB cable going to a separate power source. It did eliminate the GPU-related noise, but the PC was still noisy enough to introduce interference somehow (ground loop possibly? Doubtful since all power came from a single UPS). They do sell USB galvanic isolators, that might do the trick, but they're as or more expensive than the K5 itself. Optical connection will do fine. Edit2: turns out it was my speaker's issue with the aux input. I bought a separate speaker for my work computer and now I just do a direct USB connection to my computer and all interference is gone. I'd still prefer a separate power input from the USB data input in case you ran into interference from the motherboard, but I have 5o say it's perfect now

I’ve been using this DAC/amp for the past couple of months, mainly for FPS games, and it’s been a great addition to my setup. It has no problem driving my IEMs, and the bass and treble controls let me fine-tune the sound to better hear footsteps and directional audio. I had an Aiyama DAC-A2 headphone amp for a year or so and was pleased with it. The other day I turned on my computer and it shut down with a warning that there was an overvoltage coming from a USB device that could damage my main board. It turned out to be the Aiyama. Research and reviews led me to the Fosi K5. It had the features I needed at a good price point. I've been using it for a week now. I was surprised to find the audio quality through my Audio Technica headphone was noticeably better than with the AIyama. The sound is more detailed and the attacks are crisper. I use several sources, from YouTube to CDs to recordings I make for the videos I create. I also transcribe and restore vintage 78 recordings and the added detail helps me do a better job of restoring. I'm running it with treble and bass knobs set to neutral and have plenty of both. There's more than enough volume headroom for my AT cans. There is one thing I've found that is mentioned in the instructions. If you connect to a Windows computer using a USB A out of the computer, Windows may not recognize the device. It wouldn't for me. Luckily a had a spare USB C port on the computer and it works fine.

I have had the Q4 model for a few years, used via USB on my PC. Needed a 2nd DAC to use via Optical from my new Samsung TV, since using a USB DAC on it has been full of issues. Saw this new model, the K5 Pro "Gaming" DAC, and it states it is better than the Q4, better soundstage, more amplification ability etc. I do not care about the Mic input. This DAC is different in design/function from the Q4 in that it does not have a switch to toggle modes, you have to short press the Volume Knob to change modes, long press toggles power. If the DAC looses power/USB connection, it always reverts to powering on to USB input. The knobs are a tiny bit bigger than the Q4's, but are much smoother to adjust. Really like the feel of them. They are all silver and you can not see the line marker on the dial, but a bit of black marker in the line helps with that. I agree with a couple of the reviews here already, the knobs are just too close to each other. Really wish they spaced them out a tad bit more. Also, make the volume knob a bit larger than the other 2. There is Deathbeam BLUE LED that is on that shows what mode it is in. Covered that with black tape. There was no such LED on the Q4. Sound compared to the Q4. The K5 Pro is a bit brighter, with a bit wider soundstage. It has much great amplification ability. The Bass and Treble knobs as well, have a higher amplification ability. (you can add more bass/treble that the Q4). The Bass EQ curve is very wide, also boosting mid-bass to high bass bands. (same with the Q4) The Treble, again wide curve, much more boost with the high-Treble freq bands (10kHz+), as a noticeable hiss and sharpness appears at higher range of the knob. I prefer sub-bass/low-bass boost, and while, the K5 Pro and the Q4 Bass Knob does apply a boost in that spectrum, it muddys up the bass a bit, since it also boosts the high bass (over 80Hz). So it a tad more punchy bass sound that deep sub bass. My other portable DAC (qudelix 5K) has a full software EQ in its app, so i am used to that fine adjustment. But I find the Fosi acceptable enough with the bass heavy headphones i use (SkullCandy Crusher Evo). Overall, the K5 Pro DAC is a mild upgrade from the Q4. If you really need a mic input, and like that it can single USB cable for both power and data connection, it is a more worth it upgrade.

This thing is amazing. It's a DAC/AMP all in one. It's sleek, feels very well made, and the audio coming out of it is amazing for my new FiiO FT1's I'm using. I've paired the FiiO FT1's with a ModMic 3.5mm version. I thought the headphones at first were really, really nice. Massive upgrade in sound quality from the Steel Series Arctis 7 Wireless. But I was experiencing a volume limit with my mobo powering the FT1's. When I plugged in the amp for the first time --- which is SUPER easy if your PC has a USB-C port. All power/audio goes through the USB-C port, so from the backside, all you need to plug in is the Fosi Audio DAC/AMP USB-C into amp, then into your PC. No drivers are needed, it's literally plug and play. Man-oh-man, when I powered it on for the first time it was like experiencing nothing I've ever experienced in life before. It's made me an audiophile of sorts now. I can never go back. The sound quality paired with the FiiO FT1's is incredible. The fact you can change bass/treb on the fly is amazing. I would've loved one more knob for mids, but honestly, the knobs are very well built. The Bass/Treb have a detent in the middle, so if you are in low light, it's very easy to find where you are on the EQ. I was able to route the USB-C cord around my PC, so now this little Fosi K5 pro sits neatly right next to me, within reaching distance, and the entire experience is fluid. If you have some true HiFi headphones, and you are powering them via your mobo, I get it, you're getting a great experience. For $80 this thing transforms the experience. Video games feel like movies. You can power them to higher volumes, you can tweak Bass/Treble on the fly, and this thing is built solidly. When I plugged it in, I raved to my friend who has Beredynamics 770's.... he caved and bought a Fosi Audio K5 as well. He thanked me for weeks. The audio coming out of this thing into some quality headphones is nothing like I've ever experienced. Everything else -- car audio, audio via my laptop to some crap headphones --- none of it compares. It will change your listening experience 1000%. Would recommend this to anyone.

With the release of Marathon, I wanted something that would help provide a boost in audio clarity over what the PlayStation's DualSense controller was putting out. Enter the Fosi Audio K5 DAC. This unit plugs directly into the PS5 via USB-A (Console) to USB-C (DAC). The PS5 immediately recognized the device as a supported audio output device, and can easily be enabled in the quick settings menu. For the unit itself, it is solidly built and has a decent heft. An all aluminum body with solid rubber feet. Separate connections for headphones and microphone input via included splitter cable. This cable is of questionable quality and found that it would need to be reseated as I would occasionally lose microphone input. Might be a shielding issue. Separate bass, treble, and volume toggles which provide an ample boost from the flat output curve of the DualSense. Higher quality audio with a wider soundstage and more precise imaging, which for multiplayer competitive FPS, is absolutely desired and highly appreciated. Overall, pleased with my purchase and would recommend to anyone seeking to get more of a fuller audio experience from their PS5.

I have used iBuds Pro, Shure SE215 in-ears, Sennheiser HD 650, AKG K553 MKII and a group of cheap earbuds. The Fosi improved the clarity and separation of the sound coming from my Mac and made all of the headphones sound better and it handled them all well. I was able to pick up subtle nuances and sounds that I had not heard listening straight from the Mac sound card. It does not sound as good as my Universal Audio interface, but I wasn't expecting it to for less than 10th of the price. It does sound amazing though and is hitting way above it cost. It is a quality built metal chassis, small form, Volume, Bass and Treble buttons that I love. I like tinkering with the sound depending on the song and this makes it very easy. Volume boost is good and can get loud without distorting. It's not blow your ears loud, but definitely louder than the Mac by itself. I am glad I found this, it made listening to my computer and phone much more pleasurable and is small enough to take with me.

situation : malentendant, j'ai un casque filaire MEZE 105 Silva, avec un cordon DAC qui me permet, en le branchant sur le téléphone d'avoir une écoute améliorée en liaison avec le logiciel "amplification" d'Android. Mais pour la TV, c'est plutôt plus compliqué. TV SAMSUNG 65 TQ65S95D avec platine extérieure et ses connexions. J'ai commencé avec un SENNHEISER RS195, bon casque, connexion optique, mais le volume son est limité. Il me fallait donc une solution pour brancher la sortie optique de la TV sur un ampli DAC avec réglages séparés (aigus, basses, volume) sur lequel, je brancherai mon filaire. J'ai donc soumis chatgpt 5.2 à la question et après un prompt indiquant qu'il était important que je puisse entendre les voix correctement (problème de phonèmes), il m'a proposé 3 articles possibles, en me donnant un avis : sur l'utilisation réelle, la puissance, le rapport/qualité prix et ce modèle est sorti en 1er de son classement. J'ai donc essayé et le résultat est parfait. Je peux ainsi choisir en même temps l'utilisation du casque en vue : - d'obtenir le son du HP TV si une personne regarde une émission avec moi - idem pour le son de la barre de son SENNHEISER notamment pour le Dolby ATMOS (le Fosi ne prend en charge que le PCM sinon, ça ne fonctionne pas) ou le casque seul en optique. Ainsi, je maîtrise les réglages. Le FOSI est petit, il a des connexions en câble optique, en RCA et en coaxial. L'alimentation se fait par USB C 5V (ce qui correspond à la norme standard) Une seule réserve : les boutons de réglage me paraissent "fragiles". A voir dans le temps. Attention, on trouve ce matériel un peu à tous les prix ça va de 65 € environ à 145 euros, mais j'ai préféré choisir le fabricant plutôt qu'un illustre inconnu en terme de fournisseur. Rapport qualité/prix : bon Note globale : 9/10 - je recommande selon usage et déplacements

Started looking into aftermarket solutions after having problems with my on-board audio. This is a fantastic unit for my powered Audioline speakers and Jamo subwoofer, and for driving my Shure headphones + ModMic, I love it! Works straight out the box. Build quality is exceptional. Sound quality is fantastic. Couldn't be happier. Although.... Why is there no way to switch between outputs! Seems like a massive oversight. Why would anyone only want to drive their headphones and speakers simultaneously? But all in all. I love this thing for the price, will be looking at this brand for future purchases.

Purchased this audio DAC because i was excited to see that FOSI AUDIO had just come out with a DAC that included headphone microphone input. I was an early adopter of this product and actually paid a premium price through amazon USA, shipped to Canada. I knew the similar FOSI Q4 had an excellent reputation for sound quality but unfortunately did not suit me because of the lack of microphone input. In come the FOSI AUDIO K5 MINI PRO.. I had to give this DAC a try. As soon as you handle this product you know you are getting a quality piece of equipment. Setup is easy, all you do is plug it into your computers USB port. No driver install, just tell your computer to play the audio from the device in your sound setup. Even comes with a dongle to allow for a combined audio/mic headphone set to plug into the separate jacks on the device. Audio quality - 10/10 excellent and an absolute steal for the asking price that I am now seeing on amazon as of DEC 29/2022 Microphone quality - 10/10 If you online game your friends are going to think you have a very fancy microphone with this DACs ability to amplify the microphone input. It can be almost too clear and loud on some headsets but this can be adjusted in the windows input microphone level settings and turned down. I did need to get support from FOSI and they immediately and quickly helped me with my advanced technical question and had my device working well with all my equipment. (I use quite a few different headphones w/mics and had an issue with one of them which FOSI solved) This K5 MINI PRO is on par with some of the very expensive DACS out there. There is only two features I wish that FOSI would add. Some sort of "go to sleep mode" and "auto wakeup on sensing sound" to have this unit automatically turn off after say 30min of inactivity and wake itself when needed. The other would be a volume adjuster for the microphone input. These are just wishes to make an already excellent product even better. You will not be disappointed with this product.
