I am suffering from hay fever. Would it still make a difference?** A: I also suffer a lot from hayfever but earlier in the year (tree pollen), and I can't sleep without a window open. What I found to be the best strategy for me (if you can bear it) is to close the bedroom windows during the day when the pollen is much more active and gets into the room, and run the HEPA to keep the air clean in the bedroom. When you go to bed open the window, and continue to leave the HEPA running through the night. I found this worked for me, but if the weather is hot at the present time your bedroom may get hot during the day so maybe draw the curtains/blinds during the day too?. Anyone own both?** A: As was going to purchase Philips AC3256/60 or this Winix,found out that Winix had over 20 yrs solely producing quality Air purifying equipment. Opposed to Philips just getting into it and not regarded as experienced in this field ,but generally better known, albeit expensive,for a diverse field of equipment.Also told that they aren't independently tested, approved and certified as those by Winix are .Hence chose Winix and so saved £100 ! ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Good value for the money *by O***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 March 2016* For the money (£255) I think it is a good value considering its CADR (Smoke / Dust / Pollen 291 / 298 / 343).It is quiet on the two first level, not so with the two others.The remote control works well. The air purifier is bulky but light enough to lift it easily. Its build quality is correct (all plastic) but it certainly does not have the same quality feel than a steel made Blueair 450 I also own (which costs £200 more). Its quality is more like the Fellowes air purifiers, maybe even a bit less because its front panel is flimsy when touching it.The all in one filter (£62) can be washed and is supposed to be replaced every year. I think this is a maximum. The Blueair has a HEPA filter needing to be replaced every 6 months but in practice I change it every 4 months because it gets dirty despite the fact we have no pet, the house is new, well cleaned but we live in London. All my air purifiers are on 24h a day, 7 days a week.I posted some photos of it next to the Blueair 450 and next to a 55 inch TV so you can get an idea of its size. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars I spent some time researching for a good purifier, I found the Winix U450 meets my ... *by H***G on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2016* I spent some time researching for a good purifier, I found the Winix U450 meets my requirement.It has an automatic sensor and works well and it will reduces the speed at night time and very quiet as well, the item looks a little bit big but it is not very heavy to move it around in my house.I have used it round the clock which seems very effectives and works well for the dust allergies and hay-fever.A vey good air purifier and you only need to replace the filter once a year. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good! *by T***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 July 2016* I've had quite a few air purifiers over the years and never been totally happy with them because of noise or poorly designed meaning fiddly cleaning and dust build up inside the unit that you couldn't reach to clean out.I spent time researching which to get, my previous, a fellowes which was loud, rattling and vibrating and didn't do much for allergies and did nothing to reduce dust and so loud couldn't be used at night.This one however meets nearly all my high expectations.It noticeably reduces dust on surfaces and I unfortunately live in a very dusty place. I also have two small dogs which are moderate shedders all year round.I have included a photo of the pre-filter which after only two weeks is covered in dust and dog hair. This filter you can vacuum whenever you want.On low it is very quiet and even medium is acceptable to use all day, the higher settings are of course fairly loud but actually quite a pleasant white noise and drowns out unwanted background noise.When it gets dark it reduces the speed lower than the quiet setting and is literally silent especially if you turn off the plasma feature which makes a small noise of its own.I prefer to manually set it to low at night as its inbuilt night mode doesn't do much allergy wise.The CADR ratings only apply to its highest setting as it is with all air purifiers so even though this is in my 15.5ft x 11.4 ft bedroom I went for this larger size for better results even on a lower setting.The unit itself is rather large and really needs to be located fairly centrally in a room to pick everything up. It doesn't seem to be very accurate on auto mode to detect smells etc and speed up if it's running at low speed. I tend to keep it on medium most of the day because of this. This is one of its small downsides.Overall though I'm quite happy with it.*Edit* Two years on , just outside of the warranty and the fan has become rattly and noisier and the ar flow has become severely reduced. There's no way to open it up to clean the fan. The filter replacements have also increased by £25!
