You should be fine to use the power cable provided with the light, the draw from this LED strip is very low, the 20 gauge wire provided is more than adequate, if a little short. I had to use my jump start post in my 2003 Yukon because there wasn't enough wire provided to reach the battery once the light was installed on the hood. **Q: Does the button get pushed to cut power?** A: Yes, when the plunger is pressed in, the light will go off. So the switch has to be mounted so the the hood of the vehicle can press the button down when the hood is closed so that the light is off.
