What does an Air Gap Body with cover do?

Typically, it aids the dishwasher in emptying waste water thru the garbage disposaland in case of "back-up" allowing the backup water to go directly into the sink since an air gap is usually installed on the sink deck.

HI, are this made of solid brass with chrome plate finished, the discription said plastic and brass for material which is plastic and which is brass?

I have the "Vibrant Stainless" and the cap is definitely plated brass. The body (the white part) is plastic but not visable when the cap is installed. As I recall the the nut was brass as well but I'm not positive about that. I think the cap is standard size.

Is this product a good application for scaring the mailman away?

This product should only be used as recommended. Any other use can and will void any warranty.

We just used it over our old one so yes I'd say it's universal. Mine is not a kohler specific vent. It works great. Sits right in the quartz and you don't see any of the plastic vent under it.
