Buy 101 Schooling Exercises: For Horse and Rider 2nd Revised edition by Day, Andrew, Bell, Jaki, Day, Jaki Bell|Andrew (ISBN: 9780715329757) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great ideas - Great when you need new ideas and something different to try. Review: Great ideas for helping you and your horse in the school - I have the attention span of a goldfish when it comes to schooling my horse, so I purchased this book to give me a bit of inspiration. It is a well presented book, with clear descriptions and diagrams of a variety of different excercises to keep you and your horse interested. It looks at things as basic as going in a straight line (which is actually a challenge for my 6 year old horse!).I like how it gives tips what to do, or look for when things go wrong. It also goes onto more advanced things like canter lead changes. If you don't have lessons and want a bit of inspiration, then I do recommend this book.

A fantastic book and a must for all budding equestrian types. I purchased this for my partner who is still learning but wanted something a little more in depth that she could put into practice while alone. Great instructional diagrams with clear written instructions. Lots and lots of exercise practice practice ideas to keep your horse interested. An excellent purchase.

Will make anyone's flatwork/dressage MUCH better
Excellent with clear diagrams - proves that if you do the exercises accurately one by one and practice riding well every time you school then you will be training yourself and your horse correctly and you really will both improve massively over the weeks. Also useful to dip into if you are having problems with particular movements/transitions. So good I bought 3 and gave them to friends....

Your pathway to great flatwork.
This book is full of ideas to keep schooling interesting. I often get stuck going round on the same circle trying to get it right, since having this book I have been working on an exercise each time I ride which pushes us to try harder things and as a result my horse is more engaged and his basic way of going has improved without me fiddling and faffing on a boring circle. It doesn't matter if the horse is doing it totally correctly, just doing the exercises builds strength and engagement. The exercises do the work for you. I also teach and this book is also great for lesson planning. Highly recommended book.

Great book to help with structuring training sessions
Great book. Really helps with focusing on a plan for each schooling session. Having gone from riding lessons all my life to suddenly loaning a horse and no longer having an instructor on every lesson, I have found this book a great start point for helping me chose exercises which will benefit both my riding and the horse.

fab
love this, yet to try out the exercises, but have been through and put a load of tabs in, so I can pick two or three exercises to do each session. Can't wait for lock down to be over so I can go and put this to use.

101 Schooling Exercises: For Horse and Rider There are several books on the market with schooling exercises, arena patterns and the like, but this book I found to be more useful than the rest. The things I liked about this book were numerous . There are exercises contributed by top trainers/riders such as Richard Davison, Sylvia Loch, John Lasseter and Jennie Loriston-Clarke, to name a few. All the exercises themselves take up a whole page which are very clearly done and in this large format book (11 x 8 1/2 inch) which gives plenty of room to clarify the exercise. In order to help the rider the exercises are further clarified by accompanying text such as "How do I ride this exercise?" "What should happen" "How do I ride (travers)?" "Moving On" "What can go wrong?" and "If it's not working" The section on Rider's Problem Solver further outlines a unique way to use the book. An example being "My horse is stiff on one side" - so the required exercises for this problem are given. There are further chapters on Why School Your Horse?, Structuring Your Schooling, The Horse's Way of Going, The Rider's Position, Making Things Work and Setting up Your Arena. This book is not to be missed and will be invaluable to the rider who has to work alone and the less experienced to see how an exercise should be performed.

This book as a fantastic aide while training yourself and your horse. The exercises are very well described and illustrated. There are also hints for what to watch out for, and what to do if something goes wrong. The progression of exercises is well thought-out and great for slowly building up the skills of your horse. There is also a section which suggests which exercises may be good for which problems (such as collection, flexion, or gait transitions). This is a wonderful manual to have around when you need some great ideas for what to work on. Highly recommend for any rider serious about their equitation.

This book is equal in theory and practicality. It teaches you how to ride your horse to practice a specific principle. It gives you inspiration and fun what to do with your horse. The diagrams are fantastic. The riding-level chart is funky: and no explanation of what they mean.
