The latter has a lot of heat, where as Aleppo pepper has had the seeds and membrane removed before grinding them up - which gives a more subtle warmth without that mule kick of heat (the heat contained within simply tingles the tongue without that Etta James "Lord I'm on fire" moment). With a slight fruity taste and a subtle smokiness, aleppo pepper will suit simple pasta and Mediterranean fish dishes best. Although they would give a serious pimping to potato grattan. Spice wise, they might be a good intermediate level for children, after an introduction to both sweet and smoked paprika. Lastly, the amount in the jar may not seem like a lot - especially considering the price paid, yet a little is surficien (don't be tempted to be heavy handed). Flavour is meant to be enjoyed, and if too hot, that heat not only effects the other flavours in the dish (by overpowering them), but a burning tongue can't mastercate properly and taste the fullness of the dish.
