ALL QUESTIONS ANSWERED. Perfect speaker within the ยฃ100-ยฃ200 price bracket.
I have recently purchased the GTKXB5B, I will try answer all the questions I had before buying the product to make the decision easier for you: Q: Is it loud enough for a party? pre drinks? to have the neighbours call the police? A: Yes to all of those 3, at 45% volume you can hear the bass through the walls of your house. I'd say 20% volume is normal comfortable listening. at 60% volume my neighbour texted me asking if I had a new speaker and I live in a fully detached house. You would not be able to hold a conversation at all in a room with this speaker at max volume. It is mad. Q: Is the price difference between the GTK 5 and GTK 7 worth it? A: Although I do not own a GTK 7, I can honestly say that the GTK 7 would be overkill in terms volume level as max volume on the GTK 5 is already too much to continually listen to. Obviously if money is no object for you, buy the more expensive speaker because then you're not left wondering 'what if?', but it is not necessary. Q: How does the speaker compare to smaller portable Bluetooth speakers? (Such as the UE Megaboom/Bose soundlink) A: Much much louder, the sound is clearer and can fill a room more easily. The sound also doesn't distort at high volumes, which commonly happens with portable speakers. Q: Can I produce off this speaker? A: Yes, although it is harder to pick out certain instruments as the bass is alot heavier and the sounds aren't as equally balanced as they would be off something like KRK Rokits or Yamaha's. But obviously these speakers aren't tailored for production purposes so they do well considering. Q: What comes in the box? A: A power cable, some manuals and the speaker. There is no aux cord which honestly would have been a nice touch, but whilst connected to the speaker through aux the sound is clearly not as good as it is on Bluetooth so maybe Sony where just trying to offer the best listening experience first? I've seen people moan about the lack of remote, but i'm not really buying into this complaint because you control the music off your phone so its not really needed at all. Q: Is it big? does it look impressive? A: It is alot bigger than pictures and videos on YouTube make it out to be. Just because the GTK 7 Dwarfs the 5 doesn't make it a small speaker, the 7 is just crazy big. Standing upright, it is taller than knee height and Im 6"2 with fairly long legs so it is a big unit. The lights and the general aesthetic of the unit is very pleasing and it is a big talking point if you place it anywhere in a room Q: Does it sound good on all music genres? A: Yes, I have tested every genre and, although it does sound best on Electronic music such as bassline and DnB, all other genres carry their weight nicely on this speaker. R&B and Hip-Hop sound especially good on this unit. Please click helpful so this review is pushed up further.

A Monster of a Speaker. Excellent.......
Just absolutely wow. Bought this speaker to hopefully lesson the noise from my other systems in the house. Neighbour complaints all the time. And 1st nite I had this i had complaints. But wow what a speaker my house literally vibrates. Download the music centre app to tweak things, very easy to set up. NFC to phone and add as trusted device, happy days. The app can do lighting and sound, power off but not turn it on. No biggie, as the sound this produces is something else, you simply would not believe it would come out of this little ish box. Super impressed. Gonna be getting another 3 as they all link to each other using one as a main control centre. The lights I have left on rave, as it suits all my milusic genres. Played pink floyd as someone mentioned on here. And lights were great so not sure, or if you have a different setting in illumination. But what a buy I have wasted so much money on 60 little ones, and this was out there all the time. As was trying to buy the old skool jvc ghetto blaster, but to no avail. But this has super pleased. High end depends on what source you're music is coming from and again, this can be altered through settings in the app. But the low end is just incredible it engulfs you, as always want to feel the bass. A super quality product from Sony. 3 more to buy.

Crystal clear sound
I purchased this speaker over a year ago and have now decided to put up a review. Sony have recently upgraded to a newer model but I have to say this speaker is phenomenal. It is easy to use and the sound quality is perfect. I'm not one of them people that will dribble about deep lows and all that nonsense, if you want that then talk to the nerds in the retail shop. You get a huge amount of bang for your buck with this, as I was originally in the market for a soundbar for my TV. Granted a soundbar is sleeker and inconspicuous but for half the price you get a speaker that can literally rumble the flat you live in as well as perforate your eardrums, if that's what your in to. Sony is known for its build quality and professionalism and it shows here. I would recommend hands down. Added bonus of lighting around the speaker. Nice touch ๐

Play something... Somebody PLAY something!
The sound quality and volume from this unit is excellent (It's a Sony so that ones pretty obvious.:) ) Build quality is also top-notch, again nothing less expected. I was worried the lights would be gimmicky at first however they can be set to various programs and I've found they really do add to the experience rather than distract from it. I've seen other reviews stating this speaker is a little bass heavy. That seems partially true; however, if you download the accompanying app and go into the speakers settings. I found that the default EQ mode seems bass biased even without extra bass enabled. So after setting the EQ to flat it became much cleaner for non bass-y music. Also I'm not sure what was going on with others when they've said using the phono jacks results in unclear sound compared to bt connection. I expect that may have been down to the source rather than the speaker. I've got mine pared with a Creative Sound Blaster Play!3 High Resolution USB DAC Amp and External Sound Card and the sound quality and dynamic range seems indistinguishable to a BT connection. So why 4 stars not 5? Software. It's genuinely frustrating to have such a clearly capable piece of hardware, that's been sorely let down by its firmware and accompanying app. Changing the EQ in the app results in a 1-2 second cut out in sound. (Again you can get around that problem by just setting it to flat and using a source with its own EQ) The main gripe however is lighting control. Various modes are intended to react to music as it plays, flashing the lights, strobes, and changing the colours etc. Sadly it's incredibly dim-witted. It seems ok for very specific types of dance music, but the majority of the time I find it going dark while the music flares up, and the strobes going nuts when the music is calm. Try it with some Infected Mushroom or Pink Floyd and you'll see what I mean. This honestly feels like it could be easily sorted with a sensitivity control, but there is no option for that in the app. There are also some audio effects in the app (WahWah, Isolator and Flanger) which again lend to just how powerful this thing's hardware is, but the app gives such poor control over these features that they are effectively useless :/ All together however, this thing is an awesome piece of kit. It weirdly makes a compelling case not to buy the higher end models, which likely isn't what Sony was going for but hey works for me. Would recommend and I will be buying a 2nd one. :)

Great speaker for garden or indoors! Loud and with lights!
Been using this now for six months in the garden (protected from wet conditions) whilst either sitting enjoying the sun or on evenings sat in the hot tub. Really good for all types of music, rock, metal, pop etc. Glad I bought this. Lights give good effect in the darker nights. Bluetooth connects easily. Want another but loud enough on its own. Used to love Sony products but moved to other brands. However this product is fantastic. Highly recommended. Well done Sony and thanks Amazon for a great pre-Christmas price.

Great for a party
So good, I bought 2 of them to link together. This link isn't so strong to set up, but once done works really well. I bought after seeing a friends at a party I was at, and have passed this onto another friend who now wants one. At the party, some youngsters wanted different music, so easy to setup on their phones and take over the tunes. Love mine. Only suggestion I could make to Sony is "can you make a waterproof one?"

The Best Speaker for a Student house
I bought this speaker at the start of my second year at uni to replace my old crappy one. And dear lord was it worth the purchase. Songs have gone from being straight garbage to amazing just with a good quality sounds system. Using it pretty much every day for a year its survived incredibly well, with the bass vibrating through our house and providing some amazing moments screaming dirty stinking bass throughout the last few months with extra bass on and volume maxed. Would recommend to any student, or really anyone to buy this speaker. I will be getting a second as soon as I can, cant wait.
