Gentle Classic Comedy Gem That Deserves Another Outing On TV Screens
On The Up is a classic comedy gem that todays script writers need to look at to see how you write a sitcom that is not vulgar in which the whole family is able to sit down and watch unlike the crude shows of today!Written by Bob Larbey whose other famous sitcom is A Fine Romance that starred Judi Dench and Michael Williams, here he has a vehicle for Dennis Waterman who at this point mainly known for The Sweeney and Minder stars as Tony Carpenter a self made millonaire and owner and executive of a profitable car hire business may have made his way up to the top of the ladder has never forgotten his East-End Roots and instead of treating his employees like slaves thinks more of them as friends much to his posh wife's disgust who looks down on them as servants who should be seen but not heard. We have the wonderful and talented Joan Sims who plays Mrs Wembley the household cook and has that immortal catchphrase "Just The One" when gets asked weather or not wants a glass of sherry.Sam Kelly known for being in comedy series Porridge or Allo Allo plays Tony's longtime friend and chauffeur Sam along with Jenna Russell (Born and Bred) who is his personal assistant Maggie.Shame we have to go back to the classics like On The Up, A Fine Romance, Sink or Swim, Are You Being Served, That's My Boy, You Rang M'Lord, Hi-De-Hi, Dads Army, Sorry, Last Of The Summer Wine and many more who had fantastic writers sadly lacking in todays world of reality shows. This is a must for anybody who loves good old fashioned sitcoms, Joan Simms is in her element playing Mrs Wembley and the banter between her and Sam Kelly is very funny.

Must watch again ..
Good, "Clean" & Easy to Watch - all round good entertainment without having to rely upon bad language or overt innuendo in order to hold an audience and absolutely no requirement to tolerate mixed, same sex sexual dialogue - kissing, petting, etc., all fine (for them) in the privacy of their own homes, but not in my sitting room, thank you ... or maybe I'm just old fashioned .

Another Great Series Spoilt By Poor Audio Quality
So look forward to add this title to my collection, only to find poor quality control when production house lazily making this transfer. The product is well presented in individual case then housed inside the outer box. That's where the quality ends with this product. The video quality is acceptable BUT the sound volume is awful and very very low. You're liable to damage your equipment if you decide to watch something else after this awful DVD disc.Such a shame since the actual sitcom is superb. I'll have to find another copy elsewhere. You have been warned.!

Funny and warm-hearted
Essentially a heartwarming comedy about people bonded together by deep friendship. Sam Kelly is adorable as the lovelorn chauffer and Joan Sims magnificent as Mrs Wembley, who made 'just the one!' an enduring catchphrase. The only thing I don't like is Tony's toxic wife; I know that's the point of the show but she really grates on me. Even so, the other characters make it very warm and funny.

Just the one, Mrs Wembley.
I loved this series. I had never seen it before when it was on TV but vaguely recall the catch phrase 'just the one Mrs Wembley'. I was so hooked on this box set I had to ration myself to seeing just a few episodes each day. All the characters were brilliant and worked so well together. Very funny and enjoyable. It's a pity Dora Bryan as the mum couldn't continue into series two and three but I guess she had other commitments elsewhere. I'm glad the storyline ended up with everyone happy. It was nice to see this comedy set in a real house and not in a studio. It was a lovely house; I wouldn't mind living there myself! I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a laugh with that 'feel good' atmosphere.

NONE
Love this series, so was very happy to purchase the entire series to replace my current old DVDs - A very gentle British comedy pity there wasn't a fourth series of this to round the story line up - still lovely to watch again like visiting old friends.

A great Tv series
Love watching this, it's filled with humour all the way through all 3 series. Its a shame that they didn't do a 4th series.Joan Sims, Sam Kelly, Dennis Waterman and the rest of the cast amazing.
