Good for all the family very funny

I love this show! I had last watched it decades ago and remembered enjoying it for its outrageous comedy. I wonder how it would stand up over time. Still just as funny!

Very funny. Really enjoyed seeing this again. Gordon Brittas is a walking disaster. If you seen him coming towards you, you'd run. Kudos to Mrs. Brittas who was constantly on the edge of a nervous breakdown as she dealt with Gordon's myopically inept attempts to be an urban saviour. He's a good egg, and means well, and thinks he is as wise as Yoda, but he has this anti-midas effect, where everything he touches doesn't turn to gold, but falls apart, and usually very dramatically in a huge anti-climax of multiple mini-disasters all converging into one massive epic disaster, which is hilarious.Kinda like Frank Spencer in "Some mothers do 'ave 'em", but this time someone was stupid enough to put him in charge of a leisure centre =)

I did a review recently where as a group we watched the Young Ones, almost by chance as it had just arrived on Blu Ray the same day everyone came over for a Xmas meet up. It seemed hilarious, far funnier than anyone had remembered it.'Brittas' on the surface feels like the classic teatime sitcom (all PG rated) that seemed funny when you were 12, but unlikely to hit the spot now. It IS free from a lot (but not all) of the negative tropes that filled many sitcoms that preceded, and in fact a few that followed it, for example; naturalistic gay characters in a prominent role, for better or worse Brittas is to a point quite progressive despite the way it come across, Helen may be nominally the 'put upon housewife' but won't hesitate to take agency however mistaken, misguided, or badly it turns out, etc... On The Buses, it 'aint (though again for historical reasons DO check out the first series which is surprisingly well written and free of the cringe racist jokes that became de rigueur later series). That said I am against judging the past by the standards of today, to a point, as lets face it some things are just old, unfunny, sexist crap.Having picked up this set for a silly low price, although I doubted I'd have to hide behind the sofa with the curtains drawn to watch this, I did still think it would be full of lame Dad jokes, wobbly sets and bad acting. It isn't. In fact whilst the colours and styles have dated like anything else from its era, and yeah, if this was your local leisure centre you'd be going down there every week to sell a scoop story to the tabloids and/or Disaster & Full Rebuild Required Magazine rather than a swim, It's Funny. It's actually well scripted if not realistic, and the slightly iffy suggestion that it's 'the 90's Fawlty Towers' made by one comedy guide isn't *that* wild at times. Just not all the time.Later series stretch your patience a little, I think although they had more material than 3 and that's great, 7 series was a bit too much. I always wonder which great sitcoms never got to see the light of day when another outstays it's welcome, the writers just giving up on the industry and becoming English teachers. Ah well.

Haven't watched these programs for years and I bought it for the episode where the Sprts Centre was besieged by Roman centurions! Haven't found that episode yet though. This should be required watching by any budding Sports Centre managers everywhere of how not to do it! Very funny.

The complete set. Watching Brittas make a mess of everything is entertaining.Not belly laugh funny but well worth watching.Especially for Julia St John!

Bought it for one of the family and they are really pleased that they can watch the series whenever they want. They love their Christmas present.

Treat yourself. Prepare yourself for a major laugh fest! I had no idea how funny this show is. Watch when you are rewarding yourself. Watch when you need cheering up. JUST WATCH this show. It is outrageously funny.

such a shame ,i had been very pleased to reniew chris barrie that i've much liked in the red dwarf ,this serie seem to be a bit less talented but i'm just started recently ,let's give quiche a chance ..very bad point there are none subtitles at all not even englishI’ve appreciated that it mentioned in the description before .
