This 24-disc box set contains the complete collection of Agatha Christie's mysteries featuring Hercule Poirot--the meticulously-moustached Belgian detective who relies on his "little grey cells" to solve the most daunting of crimes.SynopsisDavid Suchet stars as the lead in Agatha Christie's Poirot - The Complete Collection--a crime drama series set in the 1930s. Whether he's on holiday or going about his business in Central London, Poirot finds himself exercising his "little grey cells" by helping police investigate crimes and murders, regardless of whether or not they ask for his help. He's often accompanied by his trusty sidekick Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser), and their paths often cross with Scotland Yard's Inspector Japp (Philip Jackson) who has a grudging respect for the meticulous, if eccentric, private detective.

Not at all the Complete Collection!
There were 13 series of Poirot. This boxed set contains only five of them. Perhaps it was the complete collection at the time it was made, but it was disappointing to find that, not only did it contain less than half the programmes I expected but also that one of the DVDs was missing from the box. I should have paid a bit more and bought a new set of what was really the complete collection. Nevertheless, it is good to be able to watch these early programmes and they will provide hours of pleasure.

Something to look forward to
Very much enjoying the earlier episodes - but with 57 episodes it will take some time to get through. Agatha Christie, apparently, didn't care for her hero and was exasperated by Hastings and I can understand why.Also. Why is the young female ingenue such an unlovable character - in every episode where one appears. Are they of their time, I wonder? Have just finished listening to The Peril at End House and looking forward to the television version - to see how different they are. If at all.

Agatha Christie's Poirot - A Wonderful Collection!
My wife and I have thoroughly enjoyed the occasional Poirot episodes shown on our U.S. public television station, so I decided to see if I could find a complete set of all Poirot episodes on DVD. Since we live in the U.S., my first stop was the Amazon.com website. While it offers a variety of Poirot options, none encompassed all the episodes. My next stop was the Amazon.co.uk website, where I found "Agatha Christie's Poirot - the Complete Series 1-12" - exactly what I was looking for. However, this set would not play properly on my U.S. DVD player, so I sent an inquiry to Amazon.co.uk asking for a suggested solution. In their prompt and thorough response the Amazon customer service representative suggested I purchase a multi-region DVD player through the U.S. Amazon.com website. I subsequently purchased just such a player, and after verifying that it would in fact correctly play Region 2 DVDs, I then ordered the Poirot set from Amazon.co.uk.Although delivery took longer than I expected (25 days or so), the set arrived safely and so far all viewed episodes have played flawlessly. It should be noted that the manufacturer of this set has created an ingenious storage system which allows the 32 discs to be safely stored in individual plastic "pages" within two booklets in a case that measures 7.5 x 5.5 x 5.0 inches.Considering that there are 65 episodes included in this set, my cost was 1 USD per episode - considerably less than I would be required to pay to stream those same episodes for one-time viewing from U.S. providers. (And, the picture and sound quality from the DVDs is better!)Altogether, I am very pleased with this DVD set and with the assistance and service I received from Amazon.co.uk!

A definitive performance
I got this for my wife's birthday. She was thrilled with it as she has high regard for Mr Suchet as an actor. We worked our way through the entire series (with a brief interlude as one of the discs was duplicated - very quickly resolved by Amazon) and loved the progression. We then watched a couple of films with other actors and although I have great respect for Peter Ustinov and Albert Finney, they just were not as good.We will definately come back to this boxed-set.Lovely performances, wonderful locations and props.

Agatha Christie: Poirot
This is one of the best interpretations of Poirot in my opinion. The series was a great success. Agatha Christie set the amazing plots and the casting was fantastic. The regular characters develope throughout the seasons and you never feel that someone is out of character. David Suchet did a superb interpretation of one of my favourite detectives. The Box set is nicely presented with an information booklet with a short biography of the main players as well as the catalogue of each DVD.

David Suchet as Poirot - What a class outcome
I've now bought two sets of this - one for us and one for some good friends. The various productions within this large collection which use the cars, household and street settings of the era are fantastic. The earlier series are my preferred ones - despite the latter ones often being broadcast on TV. The earlier ones get you into the personalities of Poirot, Inspector Japp, Capt Hastings and Miss Lemmon provide wonderful expressions of very conservative people relating to one another with great humour. They also reflect many of the pre-war issues that I understand existed in the country. It took us 12months to see them all. We are now working through them again.Magnifique !!!

Extra extras, yodel and compact packaging
This is not a review of the show as even those who think Poirot isn't as good as it was will probably find it cheaper to buy this collection than individual box sets. The box set was delivered by yodel, I know some people have had trouble with them but I did not.The box set is a nice, compact size, about the width of 9 single DVDs. The set could have been made more compact if the producers of the DVDs didn't have the habit of putting a feature length episode on its own disc. If they're happy to put 4 shorter episodes on a disc surely 2 features on a disc would be more sensible and fewer DVDs would have to be made. There are also more extras on the DVD than the advertised Orient Express ones, mostly making ofs & interviews adding up to over 2 hours worth of extras, which is very impressive, Granada's Sherlock Holmes box had none (bar the annoying anti-piracy ads!). Subtitles are English hard of hearing. The booklet is nicely done but it numbers the discs from 1 - 32, when the actual discs are labelled by collection e.g Collection 4; disc 2, which makes finding individual episodes a little harder, but that is only a minor complaint.
