The spike was strong and effective but the plastic cap to the sleeve insert which prevented the spike filling with water when not in use did not fit properly and kept popping out.

This is exactly what I need. The holder for my ancient rotary drier is not usable so my rotary has been out of action for years as I didn't realise a separate holder could be purchased. It arrived super quick but I had to get a beefy bloke to hammer it in for me as it took quite a bit of doing. However, it is now firmly installed in my garden ready for use. The fact that I can close the tube is a bonus I didn't expect. And it is one of the cheaper spear spikes - so even better.However, I have had to order a second one - which arrived in a box that would have held six! - as I broke the brittle plastic adapter and could not get a replacement without a complete order. The spike is sturdy, but the adaption tube (to decrease diameter) is not really strong enough.

My previous house had a concreted post and was very secure. I now live in a rented house so didn't want to start pouring concrete into the lawn, and this or the large screw-in spike appear to be the only alternatives. Before you begin you'll need a few tools, including a small garden fork or trowel to dig the hole, a mallet, a thick piece of wood and a spirit level. Dig a hole to depth and similar width of the spike and then start banging with the wood protecting the spike. Check levels as you go and keep going until the top is just about protruding above the lawn so it will prevent the spike filling with water. My dryer measures at 32mm but it was slightly loose using the adaptor so I had to tape the base and the outside of the adaptor to prevent it wobbling. I'm not sure how durable that will be and for that reason I'm only giving it 4 stars.
