Waterproof Cat Repellent Ultrasonic Repeller Cat Scarer with Ground Stake

I recently took-up slate chippings at the front of my house and replaced them with a Cotswold stone. I had no inkling that a couple of months later the neighbour's cat would suddenly decide to use it prolifically as a litter tray - eventually three times in four days leading-up to the installation of my new cat scarer. I read the reviews and chose the PestBye in the hope that this would resolve the problem!It arrived in a plain box (inside the usual Amazon packaging) with minimal instructions. It requires 4 AA batteries (not included) and it is fairly self explanatory to assemble, simply put the batteries in, put the rubber seal around the back and use the four screws to attach the battery cover. I couldn't get the battery cover to be absolutely flush and the screws wouldn't go all the way in and I didn't want to over-tighten at the risk of splitting the plastic, but with the rubber seal I think it should be waterproof (time will tell and I'll update on here if it isn't!).I am using it on a stake rather than attaching it to a wall (the stake was fairly easy to attach and drive into the ground - so that the unit was 4 inches above the ground). As it is only a small area I have reduced the sensitivity to the minimum level (and it still works fine). I am using the dial on the third frequency dot as per a very helpful review further down (which will tell you which frequency is most effective against which pest), it doesn't give any suggestion in any instructions. I have adjusted it so that it covers just the space in front of my house, it can cover up to 80 degrees.I am giving it five stars for the effect that it has had on the cat, who seems to hate it as I don't see it wandering around the front of my house anymore - but I would say the instructions are poor and I wouldn't say that it is fantastically constructed as the back doesn't `fit flush'. The neighbours children can hear it as well, so consider that if you want children to be able to play in that area.Just two points to note if you are buying:Make sure you have 4 AA batteriesMake sure you have a very small cross-head screwdriver to hand - easily purchased from any pound shop or DIY place***UPDATE***I've had it for 2 months now and it has worked a charm, not a single bit of cat mess! I've noticed that another neighbour has recently installed one to cover his lawn. I was told that some older cats go deaf and can't hear this signal - to sure if that is correct or not but the cats nearby seem to be fairly young so it isn't a problem for me.

These can be hard to quantify if they work but for us it does seem to have stopped cats using our lawn as a toilet.I ended up purchasing 4 of them to cover all areas of the lawn and fingers crossed I've not had a recent visitor.I have also used other methods of cat deterrent though which is an important point to make. I don't think there is a catch all solution to preventing animals using your garden as a WC.Focusing on the Pestbye's themselves, they take 4 AA batteries and I find they last a good long time (depending on activation) so that I only really need to change the batteries every 4 - 6 months.You can assemble the ground stake with a couple of screws and nuts which can be a bit fiddly.Then it could be a bit of experimentation to find the correct frequency in order to deter the animal that visits your garden, so this could take a bit of time to nail down.The pictures show the values you need to set and depending on the garden size you can then set the sensitivity accordingly.Other points to note, they do survive very well outdoors 365 days a year, there is a seal (foam) that protects the battery compartment, and out of 5 units only one has started to rust in the battery area.I've had these for at least 3 years and they are still going strong.The wife can notice and hear when they are triggered though so some users will not like them being in their garden.I can hear them when I put them to my ear, but the sound is just a clicking rather then an annoying sound.The blue light that comes on when they are triggered can be useful to see when they are triggered both during the day and night.The spread for pickup is very good so even on large, wide gardens anything should get picked up and trigger the unit.The fifth unit went to a relative to reside in their loft to deter rats using it as their playground.This again did disturb them!Overall, these are good but sadly the price has risen a lot recently so I still recommend but of course, these are only one tool in the battle against preventing animals using your garden.

I cannot sing the praises of this item highly enough. I bought 3 about 4 weeks ago and now have a cat-muck free garden again, and it's wonderful. I have suffered with cats at a number of different houses and tried everything from orange peel to pepper dust to expensive concoctions and never had any real success. I set these up as instructed and it would appear the job is done!I have a dry dusty area under some huge conifers at the bottom of my garden and when my neighbour got two cats they decided it was an ideal place to use as their toilet. I protested to my neighbour and we almost fell out over it, but we couldn't stop the cats soiling, and to make matters worst other local moggies began to follow suit. At least four cats were using the entire area as one big litter tray and the mess was horrendous. I daren't let my grandchildren play in the garden any more (I know from first hand experience that cat and dog faeces can carry some very nasty diseases and parasites) and I could not dig over my flower beds or plant any veg because the cats would use any freshly turned soil with relish. All in all my enjoyment of my garden was spoilt.I saw these and decided that the reviews were good enough to give them a try - after all, I was getting desperate. They arrived within a couple of days so I set to and raked all the disgusting muck up (for the umpteenth time) and cleared the area completely, installed one of these at either end and Hey Presto! No more cat poo! Well, almost none. We had one moggy that was a bit more resilient than the rest but I just turned the frequency up a bit and even he gave up after a few more days!It says you may have to persevere for a few weeks with them before they have an effect but that is not my experience, they've worked almost from the off. I dug over a bed to put some strawberries in , and installed my third repeller there to stand guard over it, and it remains poo-free! Batteries are lasting well too, and they're only some old rechargables that won't work my camera any more!Yes, the battery installation could be easier than messing about with 4 small screws, and yes the instructions are a bit naff (print off the product details on Amazon - they are much better than the instructions!) but other than that these items are a Godsend. I've just ordered another in readyness for digging over a veggie bed, so I've now spent about £70, but it's been worth every penny to get my garden back! I hope they work as well for you.

Having read the reviews I had high hopes for this product which were crushed all too quickly. As soon as the batteries were inserted I could hear the unit squeaking and clicking at me, which probably should have been the first indication that things weren't quite right. After all the very definition of ultrasonic is a frequency above the range of the human ear. The three cats, who were sat in the kitchen at the time, looked on with interest mainly although the youngest (the one who is my nemesis) did seem the nearest to being upset by it and did eventually leave the room. I took this to be the sign that I'd found the ideal frequency and set the two units strategically in the borders giving me maximum range and waited. For 12 hours not a single visit occurred and I felt victory would surely be mine. The motion sensors picked up everything, in fact the range on the sensors appears to be the best function on them, however the claim that they work on an infrared level I would have to question as they would often be set off by the movement of a leaf or the flap of the laundry on the washing line. It was not long however before Sheldon (my tabby tormentor) came sniffing around ready to do his grotty little business in my tiny plot of paradise yet again. Aware that the instructions state that it will take 2-4 weeks for cats to take the hint I have persevered. These are not cats that have grown up untrained in the use of the litter tray and nor is their tray left to fester until it stinks out the entire house. No these are cats whose conveniences are probably kept cleaner that most humans are and short of chasing after them all day with a pristine tray and a bucket of moist wipes to clean their little botties with after there is little more we could do to make their motions more comfortable. So it is with a heavy heart and a huge sense of disappointment that I have disassembled these units after several weeks of patient anticipation and experimentation with the frequencies. Even before removing the batteries and packing them away I have experimented with the cats in the kitchen once again. This time one cat got so upset he sat down nonchalantly, raised his left leg in the air and casually licked all that the vet was kind enough to leave him with. Strangely though it is my thirteen year old daughter who is happiest to see the back of these items as she couldn't sit out in the garden without them giving her a headache. So there you go, it's a one star rating from me. Partly because they won't let you rate it a zero and partly because if your teenagers are leaving little parcels in your petunias then this will surely stop them.

A plain brown, unbranded box is what the device arrives in, and instructions are of little value, as they do not adequately cover setup and construction. If it were not for other Amazon reviewers, where the frequency settings are ranged for different pests is unclear.Unpacking and setup.In order to put the device together, you will need a micro-screwdriver set (hobby or for reading glasses size) - Philips head.Start by inserting 3 AA batteries (not supplied) and then placing a gasket (seal) inside the battery compartment lid, before placing the back on. The back needs to be secured by 4 tiny screws. TIP: These do not go in fully, as the machining for the holes is poor. Do not force them, as you will end up screw-heads burred and unlikely that you will get the case open to change the batteries. I had to leave the screws about halfway in..it seemed enough to secure the seal, but did not look right.If you are not using the wall mount screw option, you will need to assemble the spike for ground use. Ensure you have the orientation correct for the brackets, spike and that all the holes align. It is not immediately obvious and of course, no instructions.Operation: There are no numbers on the dials, so I set my frequency, low (as cats are in the "2" range according to reviews). The sensitivity I set was just over a third of the dial, which covered approx 40ft of the area I needed it to.When body heat is detected, you may just hear the pulse (I know I am sensitive to high frequency). It is uncomfortable and I could just about feel the discomfort when I was hanging out washing and in range of it. You can tell the unit is working, as a blue led lights up in the sensor.Since installation, no cat-crap... so I am happy with the value compared to the gel and scented repellents, which only work until a rainy few days have passed. As for how long it lasts in the UK winter and damp, I will report back. I am not confident is is put together well enough to survive damp and water intrusion on the electronics.Worth £15 for effectiveness. Not worth the full price of £30 for the cheap construction.UPDATE: June 2014 - The device suffered water damage and the electronics began fail, draining the batteries in 24 hours. This is a failure was 6 months after purchase. Amazon is quickly replacing the item, as Primrose (UK arm of the product supplier/manufacture) did not want to entertain a manufacturer's replacement and stated that they don't do repairs. The shame is that the product does work. As soon as I noticed the cat-poop on my lawn early this spring, I figured the cat had gone deaf or the product was failing. If they make a more robust casing and use better materials, this could be an excellent product.

I have come to hate cats. It's that simple. I have young children running about the garden, and I detest the local cats using the lawn and the veggie patch as a toilet.I tried the usual granules, etc. Nothing worked, and they were expensive and ineffective.I bought one of these. Within a few days of installing, it has removed about 98% of the problem. It's so good that I am going to buy another one to cover the last part that is out of the PIR sensor line of sight.Here are a few tips and observations. I am a working scientist for your background.1. The highest frequency a person can detect decreases with age. Grandparents can't hear anything at all from it, even when putting their ear to it, but I can still hear the frequency chirp from the speaker as the unit is triggered (which coincides with a blue light going off).2. The "claymore" spike it comes with is quite satisfying. You can imagine the little present-droppers meeting an unexpected end.3. Rechargeable batteries (4xAA) are a must. I get about ~6 weeks out of one set, with it being triggered quite a lot during the day.4. The children don't seem to mind the sound too much, it's fairly high frequency anyway and not particularly loud, so they just ignore it.5. The unit is (presumably) made in China. The screws holding the battery cover plate on are a bit fiddly and flimsy, be careful. I also found that there is a slight loose connection in mine. Knocking the unit hard-ish allowed the blue light to flash but diabled the speaker. This may explain why some people are having issues with it.6. It works like a burglar alarm with a PIR sensor. It must be able to see the cat moving, so keep the sensor clear of growth and pointing in the right direction. I turned the sensitivity up to maximum. Cover your garden with overlapping fields of fire.7. Here are a couple of events that have reinforced my belief in the unit. The first is when a cat walked nonchalantly into the garden one day. I was watching in when the unit went off, the cat nearly left the ground and ran for the exit! The second was when the batteries ran out, I immediately got a stinky gift.8. When the batteries begin to go flat, the blue light still comes on for a couple of days, but the speaker emits a distorted warble at lower frequency. This is your warning to change them. Again, for older folk particularly, if you can't hear it, you won't know that the unit is not operating at optimum efficiency.9. You can't really turn it off. You can turn the sensitivity right down, or cover the PIR sensor up. But that's it. Personally, I would like an on/off switch, but can live without it.10. It seems to be weatherproof (few months in), avoid drenching it with the watering can if you can though. I have done this a few times inadvertently to no ill effect.Hope it works out for you too, for me it's a totally essential part of the back garden now.

Bought this item a few months ago and thought I should add some feedback to it. We live on a steep roadside site in Wellington New Zealand, the road is quite busy. We have two cats, the older of the two cats has now been hit by cars on the road twice, once with the result of a broken pelvis, the second time at the cost of her front left leg. The path to the road is indirect and very steep (quite a common setting as Wellington is a hilly city) and although she has a big garden with trees etc in it, she prefers somewhere else on the otherside of the road. Prior to her second accident we tried all sorts to keep her from getting to the road, but short of locking her up, or foregoing going to work and keeping a 24 by 7 guard with a water pistol at the top of the path there was no way to keep her off the path and thus stopping her crossing the road, so ultimately her odds ran out and thus her second accident and now down to three legs. Whilst on converlesece if allowed to go out (supervised due to injuries) again all she wanted to do was cross the road. Lots of reading on the internet bought our attention to these cat scarers (they are not that common her, never seen one in any of our pet shops). We have something similar for rodents, this worked a treat,s o we thought we would give this a go and placed one in a narrow area of the path on the way to the road that both the cats have to use. Happily the injured cat won't go near it, and thus can;t get onto the road anymore, she now spends 85% of her time on lock down in the house because the lose of her leg means she can no longer defend herself or climb trees to escape dogs etc, but when we are home she still gets to go out, not always supervised. Our other cat, which is younger and jumps out of her skin at the drop of a hat ignores it, it has no effect on her at all (tried changing the frequencies, on some she will acknowledge its presence, but still ignores it). She however is already to fearful of cars to continue to the road, so no problem there.In terms of weatherproofness, any one who is familiar with Wellington weather will know, 130KM Per hour winds are common, as is driving rain and hot sun. So far after nearly an entire year, the weather has had no effect, although on particularly hot days sometimes the device starts picking up vegetation around it in error. It has also survived two large earthquakes with no issues as well.Generally very happy, only beef, the manufactorers won't mail the product to us, either through fear of fraud or that it will get broken in the post. I had to get this mailed to relatives in the UK how on mailed it to me. I will be ordering two more (to conicide with a trip to the UK), one as a spare or to cover any new routes to the road, should the cat find any and a second to break for spares as inevitably the device will wear out and as they aren't common here its a hassel to get hold of.The path is quite busy as it services 5 houses, battery life has so far been about 6 months.

Works really well, but ensure it's not placed right by leaves which may trigger the sensor and drain battery. Very effective, bought one for the front garden a couple of years ago and it is still going strong (summer, winter, rain, shine and nesting spiders) so I am adding more to the back garden. Definitely a good buy.

J'ai acheté ce produit en juillet 2015 dans l'espoir de faire fuir les chats du voisinage qui venaient crotter sur mon allée et ma pelouse.J'ai donc cherché un dispositif pérenne pour éloigner les chats (et après essayer le poivre et autre, dont les effets sont très limités voire nuls).Après quelques recherches, je suis tombé sur ce type de produits, les bornes à ultrasons, avec des retours plus ou moins élogieux selon les modèles et les situations.Pour ma part, depuis sa mise en place, la tranquillité est revenue, plus de mauvaises surprises dans l'allée. Piles inchangées en 8 mois et toujours fonctionnelle après les tempêtes hivernales. Bref, à installer sans hésiter ! (et vous avez 30 jours pour vous faire un avis de toute façon)Mise à jour : après deux ans et un remplacement de piles, le produit fonctionne toujours. Petit bemol pour la rouille apparue dans le comportiment a pile.

La casa, prima del mio acquisto era stata lasciata un po' andare, e i giardini erano diventati la latrina degli amici felini dell'intera strada.Data la mia inesperienza sul disabituare gli animali a fare i propri bisogni nel solito posto, ho cercato su Amazon la soluzione, e viste le recensioni ho acquistato (con sano scetticismo, ripeto), questo dissuasore, e l'ho posizionato nel giardino davanti casa. Incredibile ma vero: funziona! Dal giorno dell'installazione non ho trovato altri "ricordini".Unica pecca a mio avviso: il rilevatore di movimento è molto sensibile, tanto che gli ultrasuoni si sentono anche se cammino in casa con la finestra aperta: probabilmente devo solo ridurre il raggio di azione. Le istruzioni non sono molto chiare, ma il montaggio è intuitivo: basta inserire le batterie (delle normali pile stilo, non incluse nella confezione), rimettere la guarnizione e avvitare lo sportellino.

庭の駐車場で猫が車の屋根に上るのを防止するために購入しました。この商品に決めた理由は、有効距離を調整出来るという点と、防滴では無く防水で雨の日でも気を使わなくて良い点です。効果のほどは半信半疑でしたが、使い始めて3～4日で車に猫が上った形跡が見られなくなり、2週間が過ぎた今日でも効果は持続しております。私の家の庭には梅の木があり、この木に野鳥が羽を休めに、または、餌探しに来て目を楽しませてくれるのですがこの野鳥まで撃退されたら困るので、有効距離の調整機能が使い物にならなかったらどうしようと思っていましたが、これが思いのほか優秀で、しっかり微調整すれば駐車場だけに有効範囲を絞ることが出来て大変満足しています。この距離調整、左側のツマミ（Sens.）で行うのですが、目盛の最小値は実際に検証してみたところ3mくらいからになります。私の家の庭の環境だと野鳥がとまる梅の木が駐車場から3mの距離に有り、目盛の最小値だと網羅してしまうのですが実は、この目盛の最小値はツマミを回し始めたところから始まっているので1mくらいから微調整可能です。有効範囲を小さくするとイコール省エネモードというオマケ付きで、野鳥の羽休めの邪魔もせず駐車場の猫だけを撃退、しかも省エネ♪言うこと無しです。小型で設置場所にも困らないので、距離調整とあわせて上手にセッティングすれば限られた環境での難しいオーダーにも答えてくれる、なかなかの優れものです。

Buenas, he venido a escribir esta reseña porque verdaderamente funciona, tenemos una casa en el pueblo, segunda vivienda, y cuando no estamos el jardin es el patio de juegos y el WC de los gatos. Hemos probado otras cosas, pero este sistema es lo que ha acabado con las cagadas de los gatos, ya no vienen. Lo único malo, por ponerle alguna pega, es que nuestros hijos también escuchan el sonido, los adultos no escuchamos nada, pero los niños si, y dicen que les molesta...Un saludo.
