Behringer VD400 Vintage Analog Delay Pedal, True Bucket Brigade Circuit for Warm Echo & Repeats, Grey Guitar Effects Stompbox for Studio & Live Use

This is a clone of the Boss DM-3 analog delay pedal made around 1983 to 1985 (ish). It is a true analog delay which copies the circuit design in as many respects as it can without being issued a lawsuit. I understand that the long extinct Panasonic chip which lies at the heart of the DM-3 sound has been reproduced. As with most, if not all Behringer pedals it uses tiny SMD components instead of the original full size parts. The only downside of this would be it very difficult to repair or modify, but even so-called 'boutique' pedals such as my Heptode phaser pedal use this technology and as far as my ears can tell it has no negatives on the sound.. Why would it? I've owned a DM-3 pedal in the past and in my opinion it sounds exactly how I remember it. Warm, characterful and very controllable. I would say if anything it is possible to dial in and make micro adjustments more easily as the controls seem less sensitive but still have a similar overall range. The envelope of the decay is spot on - something that the Line6 DL4 model of this pedal did not quite get right and was hard to live with. All the sounds it produces are usable and I finding I have a been using it as a slapback delay, a pseudo 'down a well' reverb effect and groovy Self- Oscillation sounds which I frequently sample on an old Akai s950 at low bandwidth and mangle further to great some great textures in my recordings. What I like in particular with this pedal is how the effect on guitar sits well in the mix. I sometimes record the direct out of the delay seperately so I can EQ the delay or add modulation to the echo trails. Some people have mentioned noise but mine is fine and only what I would expect from 30 year old circuit design. Isn't it all part of their character .... you know the stuff that digital models go out of their way to reproduce? The construction seems perfectly good enough - the pots have a nice feel and the sockets feel fine. There are other reviewers who moan about the case being made of plastic but it's ABS and is more than capable of surviving being dropped etc. Seriously, what do people want for eighteen quid including postage? There are people who love to bitch about Behringer but I've had nothing but good experience with them. This pedal is no exception - it sounds amazing and I doubt many could tell the difference in sound in a blindfold test. It has a warranty, if it goes wrong return it and they will replace it just like any other pedal manufacturer would. What is there not to like? I'm still trying to get my head round how I can buy a 100% genuine analog bucket brigade delay brand new for less than twenty quid that sounds just like my old Boss. I'm super happy. The clone is dead! Long live the Clone!

This is a fantastic pedal from the German company. I bought one before this one, it did not break but I passed it on to someone else. I needed to get another delay pedal so trawled the net in search of another, not necessarily this one though. However after hours of reviews and videos I decided to get another Vintage VD400 such was my experience with my first one. Now we have an orange light instead of the bright blue one, much better. Apart from that the pedal seems better made than the last in particular the feel of the dials. The sounds from this ridiculously priced pedal are astounding at this price point, great echo, real warm delays and fabulous oscillation, nice and spacey does it.Anyone thinking this is a toy and is to cheap to be believed is mistaken. I have taken the last pedal to many raucous gigs, it has sat on my pedal table, yes table, fell of the table, been thrown around in boxes, bags and vans and still works to this day, I am sure this one will do the same. Reliable? Mine 100%. Would I play the O2 with it? Why not. In my opinion this is the best echo/delay pedal out there for the money and even more money. Don't believe me? Read and watch the reviews, then buy one before they decide to phase it out.

Another good value product from Behringer. I bought this and the Behringer Compressor which is also great at this price. The delay pedal has good clarity if a bit lacking in adjustment options. But it's better than expected at this price.

This is the least expensive simple echo/delay unit that's around right now. It isn't the smallest, there are units like the equally good Donner Yellow Fall that take up less pedal board space, but they don't take a battery. Despite its modest price the VD400 has no real shortcomings. The delay time goes from zero to plenty. There are no volume, tone or noise issues to speak of. It just works. You will need a standard 9V centre-negative power supply or a 9V battery. I own far more expensive FX pedals than this but, since I only use a short "slap-back" echo for Country music on the guitar, I see no benefit in spending a lot on a delay pedal. I wish I'd kept my Yellow Fall but I know I can trust Behringer kit. Always on, set-and-forget, job's a good 'un.

What!!!! This pedal is superb, and at this price an absolute no-brainer. I have an original 1970's Watkins IC300 Copycat tape delay unit, and this pedal certainly gives a superb emulation of that! It goes from classic slap back all the way to absolute chaos. The only thing I can say is - BUY ONE NOW!

As an experienced pro musician I have more than one pedal board all filled with pro standard pedals that are well known to muso's. It's no secret that these pedals are not cheap. What you are paying for is the performance of these units. So why did I give a budget delay unit 5 stars? These Behringer pedals are incredible value for money. If you are a newcomer to playing guitar then you want to try out various fx and see how they can fit your style, and what can you do with them once you have one. Behringer allow students and home players the chance to experiment with an effect that isn't a huge wad of money. I have put together a budget board of fx to take to mates jamming sessions or open nights at the pub. I didn't want to take my working rigs to these informal, boozey sessions so this is ideal. I have amazed others who heard these units for the first time with the quality of the sound. Universal approval from grizzled old players who ALL wished a range of budget fx of this quality had been available when they started out. Get one and have fun.

Great sounding delay. Good value for money, but the rate of delay is limited. I was hoping for more control, but this thing seems to be set at 'fast' on the minimum repeat rate. A number of other reviewers have noted this, so it's not a faulty pedal it's just set up that way.

I bought this to add to my growing collection of cheap pedals. For what it costs, it's actually quite good, but caveats exist. The feel of the pedal is vague. This is probably because the switch is a micro-switch activated by a plug of rubber. Positive actuation would squish the switch through the PCB. The battery is mounted under the pedal lid, and I'm sure the pedal lid squishes it or affects the activation. Yes, yes yes. O.K, here we go. It is made of plastic. And?. This is tough stuff. The method of battery changeout is detailed elsewhere and all I have to add to that is check the lugs are fully engaged then you won't join the ranks of Behringer haters whose pedal top popped off after they, and this may be key to any reliability issues, stamp on the bloody thing as if they're roach-phobic and King Cockroach is within reach. Over stamping when run on external power may also kill the switch or detach/deform the rubber plug. Check for activation using just the pinkie ( owners will know what I mean as soon as you pop the lid ) first. I'm not fond on using a battery as a travel limiter. Sound wise. Well, I can't complain. It adds a little noise when switched in and a tad when just in the chain. True bypass?. Use Olde English vernacular relating to testicles is it true bypass. It does drain the battery when deactivated but left in the chain. It adds noise to supply rails so if you're planning on using a power brick with non-isolated outputs or daisy chaining. Not much, but some may object to the added hum. Fantastic for the price. I'm using this as a second delay unit because I can't be bothered altering the main one from slapback to couple of repeats mid set. I just click slapback out and this one in when needed. I've tried inducing radio noise by using my PMR walkie-talkie nearby and I have to get within 1' to get noise. Mobile phones don't trouble it much either, again, more than 1' away and no clickynoise badness when the phone rings or cell switches. That matters to some too.

Great analogue delay at budget prices. Sounds just like the og.

This is an analog delay pedal and if connected before the crunchy pedals gives the sound a nice tape delay without adding noise. It starts to induce noise heavily when most pedals cross 75% level with a shrill. This can be used with control over knobs to give a sci-fi effect and can be reset easily with the knobs reduced to lower values. The only trouble is getting that 'slap back' delay is not easy. It depends upon the tempo of playing and this delay needs to be calculated according to that tempo. Trial and error is needed but there is a headache if tempo crosses certain value, this 'slap back' delay will not be induced at all! Ok product for seasoned players with technical knowledge only not for beginners.

Básico pero funcional. No tiene Tap tempo ni diferentes delays, comparado con el Ibañez de las fotos es otra historia, pero también vale 4 veces menos y tiene un sonido muy agradable. Muy contento y sorprendido... Lo volvería a comprar y lo recomiendo si buscas un delay simple para jugar con los sonidos.

Hätte ich nicht gedacht, dass das Gerät einen super Klang hat. Man sollte es nicht abwerten weil es ein Plastik Gehäuse hat. Ich bin sehr zufrieden und der Preis ist der Hammer.
