Does it work on magpies

Did not work on cats or squirrels so I think that the magpies may be a problem. Why not try a cheaper version and if that works then buy this one.

Hi would these scare seagulls?

No. I have two on my table outside and as I write this a seagull is walking between the two staring at each!

Where do you put the sand in the owl. My owl has got a place at the bottom for batteries and dont see anywhere else it could go.

They don't take batteries, they move as they are caught by the breeze. There is a removable plastic bung in the base, this will then allow you to fill/part fill with water, soil, sand, or anything else to weight them. Alternatively some small screws were supplied if you have a surface you could screw them to.

Does this scare away the nice birds too? Blue tits, blackbirds etc.

We bought these to frighten off the crows which were ruining our lawn by pecking small holes and also making a mess with our flower pots. Since putting these owls onto our fence, it has made a difference as we only see a couple of crows now and again. We have also noticed that we do not see so many blue tits and other small birds unfortunately.
