It includes 12 pencils. **Q: Is it carbon based or compressed?** A: By carbon, you are referring to the core, which is a mixture of graphite (carbon) and clay, which is then finely milled and baked under compression to form the "lead" core. **Q: What number is the lead?** A: It is "HB" which is kind of like the middle density, similar to the American designation number "2". But the Japanese pencils like this one, run a bit darker that their American, Chinese &European counterparts. **Q: What is the country of manufacture ?** A: There is no country of manufacture on the box, but I'm 99.9% sure that Mitsubishi makes these in-country, in Japan. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Pencil for Writing and Drawing *by K***D on 8 August 2026* The Mitsubishi Pencil 9850 is a really good-quality pencil.
