The best dark jazz album
This is the best dark jazz album. You can't argue with that, it just is. And now, after considerable pressure from fans, they've finally done a vinyl pressing and oh god does it sound amazing. The layered, sometimes stripped back, always interesting instrumentation is beautifully realised through the vinyl format. Aided by the (much maligned) warmth and crackle of the format this is THE soundtrack to a rainy day (or night).Pour yourself a whisky, light a cigar, shut the curtains and turn out the light. This is the best way to enjoy your evening.

Slow, dark, moody jazz noir.
Ah, the many moods of Bohren. Only joking! Bohren have only one mood of course: late night noir. At least that's true on their three best albums, this one, Black Earth, and Dolores, with the first two in particular standing out.Sunset Mission has more sax that any other Bohren album I've heard - moody, moody sax. As everyone says, Bohren are influenced by Angelo Badalamenti's music for Twin Peaks, but a Bohren album is nothing like listening to the Twin Peaks soundtrack, which has a variety of moods and tempos. Sunset Mission has one tempo: slow. If you're looking for variety and bold dynamics then best to move along. However, if you like to be hypnotised by a dark and minimal approach to music then this is an excellent place to start. It's quiet jazz for disaffected loners played with a doom metal sensibility.Sunset Mission hasn't been available for a while and was fetching silly prices second-hand online. So snap it up while you can.
