Shackletons epic voyage: in film.
Now i'm not sure if every buff on Shackleton is aware that Frank Hurley, one of Shackletons crew and film maker took numerous footage of the whole experience the Expedition was to suffer in Antarctica.. From the initial journey, and life on board the 'Endurance', to becoming iced in, and the eventual demise and break up of the boat, leaving the men stranded on the pack ice. Hurley was able to rescue the film plates, by diving into the iced waters, which were engulfing the stricken boat to reach the hold where the plates were stowed. This film is a moving testament to human endurance and belief. Its wonderfully restored and presented. One can hear Shackleton speaking, and learn about the various members of the crew who accompanied him..The special features are interesting and brings perspective to the film and the wild life shots possibly initiated the idea of filmic natural history. Its B&W and silent, but has the accompanyment of a piano...

Actual film record
Sit and watch this and feel cold :-) No matter how many photographs you've seen of Endurance, the film record is another dimension.

Bravery at its utmost
If you are interested in the exploration of the South Pole by Ernest Shackleton. Then this film is a must for you.It begins with the start of the exploration and, goes on to show the ship becoming icebound. It covers how the men endured, and the decision to sail for help to Elephant Island.

An incredible piece of history
This DVD has the potential for being very dull but it is anything but. The story does not end with the ship becoming trapped in the ice, it covers the explorers trek to inhabited land and has some amazing widlife shots. Watching this DVD is like watching living history and shows explorers surviving and showing true British endurance and spirit without any of the modern trappings. I would thoroughly recommend for anyone interested in a true and almost forgotten historical event.

Pure Endurance
If anyone can show me a better example of endurance, I would like to see it.It is inconceivable how Shackleton and his men survived both physically and mentally. Then to wrap it all up,when they returned the first thing they done was to enlist into the 1st world war.I am in total awe of these incredible men.
