Question 1

How reliable is the gauge? I've put approx 140m of 15mm pipe to what is marked as 1MPa (10 bar) but it's only taken about 10 pumps

If you have filled the pipework, have no air locks and retained the mains pressure it won't take too much to bring the pressure up, you should normally only be pressurising to 1.5 times working pressure, mains pressure can range from 40-80psi.  My advice is to purchase a new large dial gauge (150mm dia.) with a range of 0-16bar. this should more than suffice for any job. Connect a tee piece to accommodate the gauge and a valve then connect the pump hose to the valve. Pressurise, close valve, disconnect test pump and leave under pressure for desired test period.

Question 2

will it allow me to pressure test upto 10 bar?

Yes you can I presureised up to 11 the kit is well built sturdy and does the job if you are doing a boiler be advised that most boilers cut off at 3 bar anything over that can weaken joints and valves

as any body used this for clearing airlocks to hot water /heating systems

Not to sure why you would want to use this method but in theory yes it could, but would take a hell of a long time. I would fill the system from the lowest point using a hose. Please remember to have a double check valve where the hose connects to the main supply. Have you been trying to bleed the system with the pump running?? You could be drawing air into the system. Try bleeding and filling with the pump off first.

Someone said the connector in non-standard.  is it half inch bsp or metric?

Hi Jeff, This is a great little tool and is really good value. Mine had a standard 1/2 inch thread, I cannot think they would have changed it. If they had you can always get a convertor from Toolstation or Screwfix. Tony.
