The advice is always to pre lighten the hair, with bleach if needed. I decided against this has I had already pre lightened my hair (but not bleach) when I dyed it pink 4 month's ago. And couldn't be bothered to wait for the pink to totally fade and start right from the beginning. Blah, blah. Being an insomniac (and impatient) was an advantage for when trawling through the Internet and YouTube looking for advice on dying straight over the pink. The majority outcome was not to as it would be a yucky colour . But I found 1 video that did take that risk and it turned out beautifully. So I decided to take the plunge. I put on cheap plastic gloves (my advice is to use washing up gloves (I wish I had. And make sure that they are ones you won't want to use again lol)), which did tear hence my lovely blue hands. And smothered protelium jelly around my hairline and top of my ears. This is a messy process and preparation is everything. I emptied the contents into a bowel and added a squirt of WHITE coloured hair contiditioner just to lighten it a tad. And applied it starting at my roots. Once fully covered I got clingfilm piled my hair on top of my head and wrapped it in the clingfilm and left it for 3 hours (manic panic advice is 30 mins, but I've found for myself, the longer the better). As you can see (my pic's aren't the best as I'm not the most photogenic), the only way I can describe the outcome is WOW!!! WOW!!! It looks so much better in 'real life'. The blue obviously has attached itself to the pink and the rest of my virgin hair a blackish colour, which thankfully covered my natural sparkly bits. When I wash it next, I will use cool, even cold water, if I'm feeling brave and colour saving shampoo/conditioner. And in between washes dry shampoo (which is my new best friend and should be yours too), as every wash reduces the colour and vibrancy. So I wash my hair once or twice a week. I've had so many compliments the most I've had with any colour. I gave 3* stars for long lasting as I've only been blue a week, so time will tell. I have fushcia shock in my hair and it is starting to fade.** A: Hey! I literally did the exact same thing as you. I had fushcia shock in my hair and did this teal over it. It turned a super pigmented royal blue and then it started fading into a more teal ish color. I had pretty pigmented pink in my hair still. So if it’s generally pretty faded you could totally get that teal color in there! **Q: This says paraben free but has methylparaben (the worst one) in ingredients ??** A: Yes, this is a chemical soup. If you have known allergies, we do not suggest using this product. **Q: Bleached, white, shimmer but T-18 made me blonde. Bleach again, and use this? No dev?** A: I realize this question was asked quite a while ago & I’m answering it bcz the previous answer is INCORRECT. You don’t add this with anything - it’s ready to use as it is. Now, the company recommends that if you’re using this product, which is the “Virgin Snow” white toner, that you bleach your hair 1st & then blow dry it. This gets the hair very porus which, is what helps it to absorb into the hair best. Some people will need to go through the bleaching process more than once to get the hair as light as possible (between an 8 & 10 - the higher the number, the lighter the hair). Now after bleaching, the hair ends up being yellow & brassy. This is the product that will not only “correct” the yellow/brassy tones, but it will also “whiten” it. It will take on a those cooler undertones & take on a cool white shade. Now in order to maintain this shade, you will need to use a purple shampoo a couple of times per week. You can also repeat this process between root touch-ups too bcz it is only a semi permanent type of toner & has no ammonia (which means there’s no traditional 10, 20 or 30 volume developer in it). So this is a product you can use after bleaching & after root touch-ups. Purple shampoos &/or conditioners are what you use between bleach/color services & root root touch-ups. If you’re noticing your hair isn’t as vibrant as you’d like despite using the purple shampoo, you can repeat this “Virgin Snow” toning step again if you’d like, or try a more permanent type of toning process altogether. Idk what this other person was trying to communicate in her response but her answer was incorrect & it’s not even clear what she was suggesting to do. You see, bleaching, coloring & toning can be very confusing for those who have never done it before & it’s SO EASY to get confused, frustrated & make mistakes & wind up with undesired results. Going very blonde like this is easy to screw up or ruin your hair & that’s why I decided to dismiss her response & give my own feedback. I’m actually surprised nobody else has, especially with the amount of people who have been following the cool toned hair color trend over the past few yrs. Better late than never I guess. A lot of people read & depend on customer reviews & feedback & a simple oversight can turn a process into a hair bleaching nightmare, which can be devastating. So maybe this can help someone to avoid making an avoidable mistake. There are other ways of toning hair, like using purple shampoo &/or conditioning masks that have purple pigments in them & there are even purple toning drops that can be added to any shampoo, conditioner or styling products & I personally use all of these techniques in between root touch-ups & color services, but people choose this one bcz it doesn’t require any mixing or buying any other products. But the one drawback is that this type of toning only offers semi permanent results, but it is still a ready to use product & doesn’t have any ammonia in it - which is found in most traditional toners that you mix together. Now one other thing, if you’re using this over hair that’s already been tones previously or as a root touch up, I recommend applying to the roots first & leaving it on there for the amount of time it recommends (30 min) & only adding it in to the rest of the hair for the last few minutes (maybe 10-15ish). **Q: How much hair will one bottle of this dye? Assume that the hair in question is very thick and will first be lightened to a 9 or 10 per the directions** A: Depends how long your hair is.
