Colour 2nd edition: A workshop for artists and designers : Hornung, David: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Superb book on colour theory - This book is all about hue, value and saturation and is aimed at everyone who uses colour in their work, be it textile, graphic, 3d, as well as fine artists. You can approach it in two ways, just read it or do the practical assignments and to do the latter you will have to purchase some materials and equipment. The author provides a list of manufacturers of gouache paint with specific paints to buy to ensure consistency, as well as paper, card, brushes, glue etc, so be warned there is additional things to buy if you want to do the assignments It starts off nice and basic to ease you in, and you are not expected to have any previous experience in the arts or drawing. The assignments use a collage format to help you produce your work and build your skills. Some of the work had me struggling a bit, but I found that it helped if I copied the examples first, then produced my own ones with lots of different attempts to get a good result, plus plenty of analysis on why they work or don't I'm about half way through the book now, and I'm already feeling a lot more more comfortable using and mixing colour, plus understanding the relationship between hue, value and saturation, and how to manipulate them to get the effect that I want I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone who does any type of art Review: It's all about hue, value and saturation - This book gives you a great understanding of Colour and how to use it. The only thing I didn't understand is why the exercises used gouache paint; acrylic would have been easier. I really think about colour more than I had before and it has helped with my paintings. I would recommend this book for anyone that wants to get a better understanding of the different effects colour combinations have on the eye. It also clarifies hue, value, saturation and much more.

It's all about hue, value and saturation
This book gives you a great understanding of Colour and how to use it.

All you need to understand about colour
The ultimate colour workshop for anyone who loves and is inspired by colour, and who wants to understand it further. I was inspired for my designs by the colour combinations that were explained so well. You can dip and dive into the book as needed, but it's worth reading carefully from cover to cover if you have time.

for artists
A lot about making colours. I expected more about colour interaction. If you are not a painter you will not benefit much from this book.

Great Book
Makes colour so much easier to understand. Lots of diagrams explaining colour and also many workshops to try out for yourself. If you're buying this version expecting English English from the title just be aware the contents are in US English. :)

Great book
Very good book, am studying fine art and find this invaluable. It is a reference book to me...so much information with excercises demonstrating the colour theory. Excellent.

Not 2 for 1!
By some flick of the finger I managed to order 2 of these brilliant books by mistake - they arrived within 24 hours of each other, costing twice the amount in postage as well as providing me with identical books. Surely there should be some way of checking that I actually wanted 2 on consecutive days? As it transpires I have an artist daughter who I hope will be delighted to receive this surprise. However, I do think the seller could have contacted me to check, particularly in view of the extra postage which I would not have chosen to pay. Book is great.

Very useful book for anyone learning to paint.
Recommended by a painting teacher, this book has some great exercises to get you to thinking about colour and how it works together with other colours. Highly recommended

Fantastic book on Colour and color theory. A wealth of information and a great reference. As your work grows, this book will become more relevant and useful - you'll see the information in new light. I highly recommend it for all skill levels.

Super helpful, not only conceptually but practically as well. This book gave me a vocabulary and understanding on which to build on. Highly recommend to anyone looking to refine their color theory.

This is a great way to experience color, and learn the how and why's along the way.
