Review: Great, but bulky - This is the smaller version. It is ideal for use with the Weber Go-anywhere portable barbecue, not for the full-size ones. It is very effective at getting the charcoal well lit, ready to decant onto the barbecue. I have only used it with irregular lump-wood charcoal. It's fine. I guess it would be even better with barbecue briquettes. You need a pair of suitable gloves (rough gardening gloves will do), and you need something heatproof to put the chimney on once you have decanted the hot charcoal, for it to cool down. Not to be used with young children around - they won't appreciate the danger. It is EXTREMELY HOT. Snag: it is bulky. There's no way of reducing its size. So adds a lot of volume to your portable barbecue kit. Recommended though, for reliable starting. UPDATE, 1 year later Even better. Now I'm used to it, it gives perfect results 100% of the time. Works fine with wood charcoal or briquettes. If filled it is enough for cooking for 3-4. Three-quarters full it is fine for 2 people. It takes about 25 minutes between lighting (one fire-lighter is plenty!) and being ready to decant it into the barbecue. I wouldn't be without this. It is brilliant.

Having read reviews, I finally decided to buy the starter and it is fantastic. Just use one small piece of firefighter, full with charcoal or lumpwood, light it and allow 30 minutes to get a full chimney load of lit charcoal/Lumpwood. A great piece of kit for any BBQ station.
