The Charge: The Light Brigade, the Crimean War and a Military Disaster

Different take on the iconic charge.
Very interesting and well written book. A completely different take with and thorough analysis of the charactors involved.

Informative but repetative and at times boring!
I was looking forward to "John Harris casts a fresh view on the subject, rejecting conventional wisdom." I was disappointed. There were a lot of facts about the terrible conditions that the men and their horses endured, about transporting horses in ships, about the individuals who were in charge of the army and cavalry. Some of the facts were repeated - horses dying of starvation, Captain Nolan expresssing his views, the weaknesses of those in high command. A lot of background and build up to the Charge which was informative but at times could have been mistaken for fiction. I found the book a chore to read and was joyous when I finished it.

excellent history well worth the read
If you want to get to the crux of the event. This does that with skill interest and just the right amount of depth. A very enjoyable read.
