Also would there be anyway of this being fixed to a beam about 20cm wide 15cm thick?** A: The machine shuts off when the cable is fully wound and also when fully extended. This applies whether single or double cable used. The fixing brackets are held on by machine screws and can therefore be placed over any beam within their capacity but the unit itself is quite heavy and with the addition of a lifted weight the loading on a support such as you mention would be worrying, certainly if the beam was wood. A better solution would be to span two beams with a support through the brackets - but even then the beam should be as deep as possible (to the capacity of the brackets) and as short as possible between supports to reduce deflection. You could always try your set-up on a couple of piles of bricks at low level first. **Q: Can this be mounted upside down if the cable is still taught and snag free?** A: Hi it will not work upside down because of saftey overrun device. **Q: in the fully raised position, what is the distance from the mounted face of the unit to the hook (as i have a cramped lifting area)** A: I'm not sure but the red disc you can see in the shot triggers the auto stop so probably about one foot **Q: What is the measurement from the base mounting plate to the eye of the hook, when fully retracted please?** A: Hi, I have not fully unwound the cable but would guess at least 20 feet.
