SHIMANO HG40 116 W/CL Chain - Grey, 6/7/8 Speed

Good value for money. Works well. Can be split using a chain link splitter.. to reduce it's length to suit. I have used three now on different bikes with 7 and 8 sprocket rear wheel cassettes

This chain was a perfect replacement for my old worn out one. I didn't need to remove any links as it was the same length as the old one. It was quite fiddly to join the two ends together with the special link, but that was probably more down to my ineptitude rather than a problem with the product. Easy to fit to the bike, good price for a good make. I've cycled approximately 30 miles with it so far without issue.

Good quality, but the link used to connect the chain was really difficult to fit. Hence the 4 stars.

This is a fantastic chain from a brand I can rely on. It fits snuggly for my 2x8 derailleur setup, and it ran smoothly right out of the box. I didn't have a chain breaker handy, so it was hard to shorten, which shows how solid the chain is. Once installed, it has worked perfectly as expected. I highly recommend it for durability with performance.

Decent chain but I'd throw away the quick link that comes with it and use something like a KMC one. It is horrible to fit and horrible to remove.

HG40 is a budget priced SHIMANO chain. It is suitable if you only do a leisurely cruise along the local cycle paths. It will not last long for serious cyclists. If you need a chain for more strenuous cycling then I recommend that you upgrade to SHIMANO CN-HG-93. This one is slightly more expensive, however there is always a reason for cheaper and dearer.
