Affordable and great!
I'd suffered and endured the dubious Virgin Media "Superhub" long enough. I decided I'd try a new router after reading all the similar problems on the Virgin Media forums. I didn't want to spend too much money, so reading the generally positive reviews of this router, and that others had even used it for the same reason, I went for it. Setting it up was incredibly simple, although I have had previous experience. But honestly the hardest part was probably setting the old VM box to "Modem" mode.. Anyway! Afterwards I wired in this new router, logged on to it wirelessly, went into its admin menu, clicked the automatic setup wizard and.... Bosh. Done! I didn't bother with the enclosed CD, I guess it would've installed unnecessary gunk on my PC, I have no idea what's on it. So setup took literally a couple of minutes, including untangling wires. Really easy. Performance has been fantastic. I immediately noticed a dramatic improvement over the old VM box. Before I'd have to click on a link on my wirelessly connected PC, and wait. Then perhaps click again. Same with all other devices. It was like the router just wasn't bothering to connect to the internet. Now it works properly. Ping and download speeds are epic. Before the ping could be pretty high, and download speeds could sometimes be fast, but somewhat variable and inconsistent. Now downloads are fast and rock steady. We have an xbox hooked up via wireless, in a bedroom the opposite end of the flat (It's a late 70s build with some pretty thick concrete walls to get through). It used to hover around the 1 bar of signal on the xbox "Find Wireless" section. Now it hovers around the Maximum point, occasionally dropping only by 1 bar. Playing games had gotten to the impossible point, and party chat was a stuttering mess of choppy voices and impossible to understand. Now, perfect. So signal is strong and very dependable. I stream media to a wireless radio, xbox etc. Worked perfectly out of the box. My wireless printer that had seemed very temperamental before is now fully co-operating. I read a couple of reviews where people said they had to reset... Mines been on permanently for a few weeks now without a single issue. I did ensure that I had the latest firmware on the TP-Link website, turns out it already had it installed. Maybe that helps? Anyway its behaved perfectly for me. So overall I rate this a fantastic router for my pretty basic needs. £20 for this is a bargain. It made my Virgin Media internet work how it was supposed to be. How Virgin who had such a fantastic reputation for speed could then couple that with such a poor piece of equipment is unbelievable. But this solves it. It's just a shame that I have to keep my stupid, large "Superhub" hooked up in modem mode alongside this great router. Buy it. It's great.

fantastic, easy to use, reliable
no issues at all, easy to set up with a data sim, offers a reliable connection, and small enough to take with us if the accommodation doesn't have wifi

Sim Card routers should be more mobile phone based
A good item but could be improved by a notification light on the front panel for SMS messages, it would also benefit from the ability to plug in a phone handset. TP-Link are great with routers but when dealing with mobile sim card dependant items they are a little lacking in their design from mobile phone makers as in order to use this properly with multiple wireless devices you need a high rate or unlimited data plan and these come with unlimited call and texts that this device makes hard to use on the SMS side and impossible for the call side. Data only plans I have found to be more expensive than plans including voice and SMS. After 1 month of using this I have had good signal strength throughout my house, the colour is great as it needs to be mounted in a window for best mobile reception and being white in sunlight prevents it from getting too hot, the power cable is not long enough for window mounting so have had to find a way to extend it (it was easier to move a mains extension to the plug than extend the power cable). Having to log on the router home page to check for messages is a pain so you can't really use the message side. Mobile broadband is good for singles or those with lower internet (non gamer and no HD streams) but you can't really plan how much data you will need, for example you tube does let you pick different resolutions but does not specify how much data you will need to watch a video. Not many singles and couples really need fibre band-with. As I am using this with an unlimited internet plan that gives me calls and texts unlimited too I have tried to switch to a Motorola FW410 4G (after only 1 month) which did not provide as good a signal throughout the house but was able to use all 3 parts of my plan - calls, texts and internet. unfortunately the hot-spot side of this item packed up after only 5 days of use, it was a hot-spot not a router. This TP-Link router is a good reliable solution for data only with limited SMS function. If calls are required on top (like with my requirement) you may need 2 sims and 2 devices (and 2 accounts/bills), 1 to handle calls and texts (a basic Nokia 105 mobile will do this for around £20 equipment cost) and this router which gives the added bonus of being able to accept add on aerials which can be either indoor or outdoor mounted further improving mobile reception (did not need these and have not tried these, may need after house move). Most people already own a mobile so should not have this issue, the use of a non smartphone is due to battery life, recharge interval and better reception. My circumstances: due to probate (death of the home owner who paid the broadband bill) I will be leaving this house soon, could not justify a 2 year broadband contract and mess around with number changes when I move. This mobile system means I pay less for phone services (no line rental), get the bandwidth I need, have uninterrupted number portability and choice (albeit limited) of my own equipment. Landlines are lv ike TV licences, a thing of the past that you don't need (if you don't use TV) and there are newer alternatives to consider. This way I only have to inform of number change once which with the house move is required anyway.

Fabulous router at a bargain price!
I'm not very computer-savvy but now we have 2 wi-fi enabled phones in the house and I'm shortly buying a chromebook, I thought it's about time I had wi-fi. Basically I bought the TP-Link due to the high number of excellent reviews. I was dreading fiddling around with my PC but once I had pulled the computer desk (and vacuumed behind it!) I plugged in all the wires as per the instructions and bingo, my iPhone was connected via wi-fi. It took all of 5 minutes. However, my PC said that it had no internet connection so I put in the CD supplied with the router and followed the simple instructions. I did it 3 times and eventually got it working by unplugging everything, plugging back in and re-starting. All in all it took 20 minutes (but another hour to sort out the wife's junk in and on the desk! I'd highly recommend this unit - it was simple to set up, is small and unobtrusive and works like a dream. In fact, upon returning home, my phone connected to my wi-fi some distance away. I'll review my review in a few months and let you know if there are any problems. Oh, by the way, I'm on Virgin cable if that assists you in making a purchase. TP-Link - many thanks for a fab purchase - I'm very happy!! Updated review:- 31/12/2013 I have owned this router for over a year now and I am VERY happy with its performance. We now have no less than 8 wi-fi-enabled gadgets regularly sucking internet through it and giving our phones, tablets and chrome-books excellent service. It sits on the computer desk flashing away 24 hours a day and doesn't even get warm. The reception is excellent downstairs (where the router is sited) and the signal strength is indicated as high upstairs in the bedrooms but its very hard to get phones/tablets etc working at full speed upstairs. I'll probably buy a wifi repeater for upstairs and see how that goes. However, its not a major problem and, as I said, we get great sevice downstairs and even in the garden. This is probably one of my best purchases on amazon. You don't need to have a large data bundle from your phone provider when you can use the wifi at home. For info we are still on Virgin cable and these are the products we use on wifi:- 1 iPhone 3GS (yes I know very old!) 2 ipad minis 2 Hudls 1 Samsung Galaxy S2 phone Samsung Chromebook Desktop Dell PC

Great price. Easy set up.
I bought this for an empty property i have to install with hive lighting. I also bought an ASDA £5 per month sim card (EE). All worked very well, then for som reason decided to 'fall down'. After reasearch i found that it has to work on a non 5G wifi (for what ever reason). so 4G (if you have should work fine). Anyway, returned and refunded with no hastle.

I recently upgraded my home network setup with the TP-Link AC1200 4G+, and I am thrilled to share my experience with this outstanding device. This router is a true game-changer, and it has quickly become an essential part of my daily life. First and foremost, the AC1200 4G+ delivers lightning-fast internet speeds. The combined power of 4G+ and AC1200 technology is a winning combination, providing stable and high-speed internet connectivity even during peak hours. Living out in the sticks I was lucky to get 1Mbs from my “broadband” provider, now with an unlimited SIM I am getting between 50 and 70 Mbs from a 4G signal, upload speeds seem OK to and I haven’t had any call difficulties with Teams. The setup process was a breeze, thanks to TP-Link's intuitive interface and user-friendly instructions. Within minutes of unboxing, I had the router up and running, connecting all my devices without any hassle. I particularly appreciated the WPS button, which made connecting devices even more convenient. One of the standout features of the AC1200 4G+ is its excellent range. The TP-Link Tether app is a fantastic addition, granting me remote access to monitor and control my network from my smartphone. It's incredibly convenient, especially when I need to prioritize devices or troubleshoot any issues on the go. Moreover, the AC1200 4G+ comes with robust security features, providing peace of mind when it comes to protecting my online activities and personal data. TP-Link's commitment to security ensures a safe browsing experience, protecting my family from potential cyber threats. Another aspect that impressed me was the router's energy efficiency. It's clear that TP-Link has made efforts to design a product that not only performs exceptionally but also minimizes its environmental impact. With various power-saving options, the AC1200 4G+ is environmentally conscious while still delivering top-notch performance. Bloody Brilliant!
I wanted to extricate myself from the clutches of BT : Domain hosting, Office 365, landline and broadband...so not very straightforward. Managed the first two with a struggle, then ported the landline to Voipfone who I can't recommend highly enough. I have an NX200 in another property, so for broadband decided to go for this 5G router and an EE unlimited data sim for £12.50 +vat per month. Disappointed to start with, only getting single figure connection speeds sometimes on my PC in the corner of the next room. Over the next couple of day signal and speed gradually improved (I experienced this with my NX200) up to point where I now regularly get 140mbps even though the sim is apparently limited to 100. I live in a large victorian house with thick stone walls and the signal penetration from the NX500 is amazing. A straight line from the router to my kitchen could not be more obstructed but still hitting 30mbps. My total monthy telecoms cost is now in the region of 20 quid, it was over £80 with BT so worth trying and persevering in my view. Was prepared to get a couple of wifi6 mesh extenders but doesn't look like I will be needing them. Furthermore, if you move house, go on holiday or whatever, just unplug the router and take it with you!
