Sony XDRS60 DAB/DAB+/FM Compact Retro Style Digital Radio - White

Great radio. Does a blinding job of pulling stations in. Excellent sound throughout the range, providing a well balanced output. Glad I went for this one instead of the baby 40 version. Input works fine. Operation is very user friendly and looks good on top of my (also) white fridge! Only negatives are that the plastics could have been a little better including buttons and jog dial. Would have given a more tighter quality feel to it all. Not tested on batteries yet but I am more than sure it will perform as expected or better. Happy that it takes a more robust power in form of c batteries instead of smaller cells. I have had a previous (sagemcom hl40) dab radio which I was unhappy with. This used to have a respectable signal but there was a lot of difference between station sounds. Most of them even though on a mono speaker had a distinctly flat (compressed) mono sound and only (cap) came through nice with twinkly bits. Whereas the Sony seems to use it's magic trickery to provide a very uniform and superior sound on all stations. I am loving this radio and will mark the final change point for me to ditch poor old beloved fm. (of which the reception is equally superb on this remarkable piece of engineering). I hope the reliability will make sure it was a wise purchase.

My previous experience of DAB radio has been very poor .i.e very heavy power consumption, appalling quality on weaker signals and not very good ergonomically. In fact both of them (Roberts) ended up on the rubbish heap! So I am very happy to say that the Sony XDRS60 is an excellent radio in every respect. The red/silver combination is very pleasing and the plastic/ metal materials of high quality. Ergonomically it is excellent with the on/off and preset station buttons on the top cabinet surface allowing one handed operation. As others have said - it is very sensitive on both DAB and FM. The latter is very important to me as local stations in Norfolk are not available on DAB and they have no plans. Set -up is automatic on both bands on first switching on, and storing stations on the presets very straightforward. The large tuning and volume knobs are very smooth to operate and the illuminated display very clear with all the station info you need, along with a digital clock and battery status indicator - if batteries are installed. Incidentally I highly reccomend you do this. Not only do you get very convenient portable operation (but note it has no carrying handle), but also the 3x C cells weigh the set down sufficiently for one handed operation of the front panel controls. I reccomend purchasing a box of 10 Duracell industrial pro cells from Amazon. They have a huge ampere/ hour capacity and cost less than £8 for 10batts. I have been running on 3 of these for 2 months and the bat status indicator still reads full! Audio quality is very good indeed and this holds at high volume settings. Although it is somewhat middle/top weighted, the bass you do get is very clean and tight. In summary I highly reccomend this radio. At £69 it beats the overpriced offerings from Pure and Roberts in the £90-120 region, all over the place. Treat yourself for Christmas, you won't regret it!

Great design and a rich sound with a pleasant treble but rather recessed midrange (a little 'thick' sounding when compared to my Panasonic RF-D10). Only portable room to room maybe, but attention to the loudspeaker and its ported rigid enclosure has paid off with descent tuneful upper bass for a small radio that sounds bigger than it looks. Welcome analogue volume control (you can adjust the volume without the display lighting up and telling you that you're adjusting the volume) and splendid very low volume DAB clarity for a change (The bass and treble accentuated tone seems to help here). Quite loud volume is also possible enjoyably. The speaker grille (dark grey for my black military looking model) is thin, so take care when moving. Mains lead about 1.5m long. Not tested with batteries yet. Aux input is on the quiet side, presumably to protect the amplifier from high inputs. Easy presetting and general use despite sliding around a bit. The major flaw is that I find it difficult and fatiguing to follow speech with this radio; I have to turn up the volume to compensate for the weak midrange - even BBC time pips sound distant. I listen to my Panasonic for the spoken word and the Sony for loud music, when I'm not interested in DJ chatter. This is an updated review after two months of use.

I have bought two of these, one for upstairs and one for down. Its chunky, robustly built. Easy to read screen. Very easy to set up and finding stations once you have done the initial scan is a breeze. I went specifically for Sony, as although you might pay more, quite frankly, the quality is way above much of the opposition. Volume control is nice and big and chunky at the side, the push buttons for the pre-sets are a good size and you do not have to access some difficult to manipulate memories. I do not mind saying that much of modern tech is picky, and difficult to work with, but this is so easy. If you want to choose a different station than you have in the presets, just turn the dial at the front, which will give you all that is available, turn to it and press the knob and there you are. Nice and Easy, like radios once were. I dont know about battery life, digital has pretty heavy consumption, but a power supply from the mains is included. Instructions are easy to follow

Wir haben nach einem Radio gesucht, das wir auch gut mal mitnehmen können, wenn wir verreisen, das aber auch Zuhause in der Küche eine gute Figur macht. Aus diesem Grund haben wir uns für das rote Modell entschieden, weil es uns einfach farblich besser gefiel. Ein etwas dunkleres mattes Rot, sieht gut aus und wirkt nicht aufdringlich. Das Radio lässt sich mit einem Netzteil oder mit Batterien betreiben. Positiv zu erwähnen ist die lange Lebensdauer der Batterien! Die Bedienung erklärt sich quasi von selbst, man kann die Sender standardmäßig über UKW empfangen oder über DAB+ (dann gibt's kein störendes Rauschen mehr). Das Angebot der Sender im DAB+ Betrieb hat uns gut gefallen (wir leben in NRW, also alle Programme des WDR etc.). Das Display ist gut zu lesen, die Beleuchtung lässt sich variabel einstellen und so kann man auch bei wenig bzw. gar keinem Licht alles gut ablesen. Zum Wichtigsten, dem Sound - der ist wirklich einwandfrei. Natürlich kann man hier keinen Super Bass erwarten, dennoch ist der Klang wirklich gut und wesentlich besser, als der, unserer bisherigen Radios, die alle im mittleren Preissegment lagen. Die Lautstärke lässt sich am Drehrad rechts an der Seite genau so einstellen, wie man es sich wünscht. An das Radio lässt sich ein AUX Kabel anschließen, mit dem es möglich ist, auch Musik vom Handy oder iPod abzuspielen. Total unkompliziert und wirklich praktisch, weil es sich so auch als Lautsprecher nutzen lässt. Fazit: Wir können das Radio uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen und sind sehr zufrieden damit.

Bonne sonorité. Très facile d'emploi. Chaque membre de la famille a sa station préférée préréglée.. C'est le troisième que j'achète.

LA MEILLEURE radio de sa catégorie selon moi, seul et unique bémol, il faudrait qu'elle dispose d'une poignée de transport cela la rendrait parfaite.

Wir haben das Radio in unserer Küche stehen, es paßt mit seinem roten Gehäuse hervorragend zu unseren anderen Küchengeräten. Nachdem wir von schlechtem Empfang und Rauschen unseres alten Radios die Nase voll hatten, stellte sich die Frage nach einem besseren Empfang, also Internet oder eben DAB+ Da wir ohnehin in der Hauptsache 1LIVE hören, brauchen wir die "Vielfalt" des Internets an dieser Stelle nicht wirklich, aber es sollte eine neue (digitale) Empfangsart werden. Empfang: Dieses Radio hat bei uns (auch ohne störende ausgefahrene Antenne!) 100% Empfang in DAB+ Der Sound ist glasklar ohne jede Störung. Für den Lokalsender hat das Radio ein FM-Empfangsteil mit ebenfalls sehr gutem Empfang an Bord. Bedienung / Ausstattung: Die Bedienung ist ganz intuitiv, auch im Menü ist alles leicht zu finden, so etwa die Umstellung der Hintergrundbeleuchtung auf Dauerbetrieb. Dadurch ist das Display auch über mehrere Meter Distanz gut ablesbar. Toll - und einer der Hauptgründe für den Kauf - ist auch der Radiotext, ein Feature, das es schon zu FM-Zeiten gab (RDS-RT) und das jetzt in DAB+ ebenfalls vorhanden ist. Im Display des Radios sieht man neben der Uhrzeit, der Station und dem Sendernamen so auch immer aktuelle Mitteilungen, etwa den Titel des gerade gespielten Songs (hängt natürlich vom Sender ab). Bluetooth hat das Radio nicht, aber einen 3.5mm Lin-In, etwa für's Handy. Klang: Das Radio hat ist letztlich Mono, hat also nur einen Lautsprecher, was uns in der Küche aber nicht stört. Ein 3.5mm Kopfhörerausgang in Stereo ist vorhanden, sodaß man das Radio auch mit Aktivboxen erweitern kann. Der Klang ist sicherlich nicht absolute Spitzenklasse, aber wie gesagt, wir benutzen es in der Küche. Das Radio hat für seine Größe ein gutes Bassfundament und es verzerrt (auch bei höherer Lautstärke) nichts. Insgesamt ist der Klangcharakter eher "warm" (Frequenzgang zu den Höhen hin leicht fallend), dadurch kling nicht dumpf, vielleicht manchmal etwas verhangen, aber nie lästig. Fazit: Ich würde das Radio wieder kaufen und kann es bedenkenlos weiter empfehlen. Vielleicht bringt SONY ja demnächst eine Stereo-Variante des Gerätes.
