It measures distance by sending out a sound wave at a specific frequency and listening for that sound wave to bounce back. By recording the elapsed time between the sound wave being generated and the sound wave bouncing back, it is possible to calculate the distance between the sonar sensor and the object. Depending on the application you may also need a couple of resistors to limit the return voltage, plenty of online resources that explain what and how and cost less than 30p from Maplins. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little ultrasonic distance measure sensors, they are 5v though! *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 14 April 2018* These sensors are great for distance measuring with many small microcontroller projects. It's worth noting they require 5v (not 3.3v) therefore a bit trickier to use with the likes of ESP8266.
