Are batteries included?

The simple answer is no. These do not come with batteries. However, I found these small devices in the packet that store and convert chemical energy into electric energy by moving electrons. While this does the trick, I'd still like batteries next time.

What is the expiry date on these batteries of late- -i.e. in 2016 ifanyone has bought recently?

the shelf life for Duracell battery's is about 10 years so you should have more than enough time to use them.

In one respect you could see the difference as a marketing ploy and a chance for the manufacturer to charge more for the 'Ultra' than the 'Plus'. There are reports that the Ultra has about 20% more power than the Plus but in practice, I am not sure you would see the difference depending on how you are using the batteries. If a 'Plus', for example, is expected to last for 20 hours, the 'Ultra' would last for around 23/24 hours. You could be anal and work out the difference in the price and if the 'Ultra' is priced 19% and above the 'Plus', then go for the 'Plus'. I suspect by the time you have factored in the transaction costs of such comparisons, you won't be any better off (sorry, the economist in me!)
