If you're dealing with a rat problem and need a reliable solution, the Big Cheese Ultra Power Ready-Baited Rat Trap is worth considering Iโve seen this had a low rating, but for me these did work and worked well.Put these trap on the mice or rat run, but keep them way from very young children so they canโt put there fingers on them. The traps are highly effective at catching rats. The ready-baited design means you can use them straight out of the packaging, saving time and hassle. I found that they are powerful enough to swiftly kill rats, ensuring effective pest control. Setting up the traps is straightforward. This makes them suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, adapting well to various environments where rats might be a problem. Made from durable plastic, the traps are robust and can withstand outdoor conditions without deteriorating quickly. Good for smaller rats
I've used the mouse versions which are generally very effective. Need to bait with peanut butter ideally, but they're easy to set and place without setting off. Can struggle to kill a bigger rat, thankfully the ones it helped take out were not fully grown. Need a more powerful one for big rats.

Does the job !!
This is a good product and it has successfully caught the rat that was going under my decking. I have been very stressed by it all as I have a dog and diseases from the rat are not good to put it lightly to him, let alone to humans. This is an easy trap to fill with peanut butter (that is what attracted my rat) or any other bait that is recommended, but don't overfill as you have to be sure that the rat doesn't just get part way in and reaches the bait too easily. The rat has to put its head in properly to reach the bait. This is a strong spring and it does snap the trap shut quite ferociously. Also very importantly, TIE the damn thing down, or as someone else suggested, put inside a bait box as it is quite a light trap and as with my rat, he must have reversed in order to try and free himself, and therefore in the location mine was in he managed drag the trap and slip down a a gap next to the built in water feature tub. I also thought that ( perhaps too innocently), that it killed the rat outright, but alas no, and it was rather upsetting to hear the rattling of the trap as I guess he was in death throws trying to free himself. I hate killing anything and would have preferred to have got a humane trap, but I could not have got to the next stage of releasing it without having to drive out to the countryside, and I do not have a car. It is though, a clean kill,in as much as there was no mess or blood, and as far as I can make out,it probably breaks the neck I guess and traps it. If you have rodent problem, I am confident that this will do the job for you. It got mine and I am still leaving the others out for a while in case there is another rat lurking. Things to remember: place the trap where other wild life will not be tempted to try and get the bait, like hedgehogs, cats, squirrels, and even ground feeding birds, that would be a tragedy. I have ordered two more as I have a big garden,so I am ok with the effectiveness of them, For those reviewers who put things like ''it never caught anything'' patience is the key, it can take a week or more depending on the circumstances,, or if you never catch anything, maybe you don't have a problem with rodents so much as you thought. I took all the bird feeders down and removed all bird feeding equipment as recommended by the RSPB after I saw this rat, as they are attracted to the fallen bird seed, and nuts and anything else that may drop to the floor that you feed the birds on. I watched my rat eating the seed dropped by the birds directly underneath the hanging bird feeder, so this had to go, and that was a big disappointment. Anyway, hope this is helpful and they are not too expensive and at least worth a try I think you will find they are good even though they don't look meaty enough to do the job, I found them quite capable in the end.

Unfortunately no rats caught!
I live near fields and never really been troubled by rats before. Then we had new people move in next door who have been feeding hedgehogs, suddenly we've noticed rats in the garden. I ordered these traps as I want to feed the birds and there is a rat (or rats) that keeps appearing and eats the food on the ground. The traps are good quality but unfortunately the rats haven't been tempted by these traps, even when my husband put bird food in it. I stopped putting the bird food down, but the rat just walks straight past it. It has however caught a couple of field mice which I don't want caught. I'm afraid they didn't work for me. Might have to look into poison next.

The animal doesn't suffer and neither do you - it's demise is instantaneous and, above all - clean.
Probably the most important thing to know about these is they're clean - what I mean is, unlike the little wooden ones (which are notoriously tricky and vindictive to set) this design is easy: you just step on the back and it sets, ready to snap - it doesn't make a mess when it catches your unwanted guest... The jaws, though they look viscous, actually inflict an instant compression injury: what this means is, the skin isn't pierced, blood flow is contained inside the corpse so really all you have to do is pick the trap up from the back and - after whatever for of send off you want to perform - all you do is flick your arm forward and release the jaws - the victim flies from the jaws cleanly leaving no mess and you can guarantee a passing predator will take care of the rest. The animal doesn't suffer and neither do you - it's demise is instantaneous and, above all - clean.... Some of the things I've seen those cheap wooden ones do really are the stuff of nightmares - this is, at least, relatively humane and completely reusable. They ship pre-baited - this is usually good for a couple of goes, you can either purchase bait replacement or just unscrew the little "manhole cover" on the top when the trap is not primed - you can pour a little bird seed into the little bait receptacle underneath, pop the manhole cover back on and your good to reset where ever you need. I've never caught a rat with one of these, I've never had that problem - but for mice these are extremely efficient, effective and - above all - clean to dispose of the victim afterwards. I've had a pair for several years now - something stole one and the other just got old: far better value than cheap wooden ones and considerably more humane than sticky traps...

Avoid. Waste of money.
I ordered 2 of these and one of their trap kits in an enclosed, lockable box. 1. Night - hadn't been touched. 2. Night - both had sprung, bait was gone, no dead rats. 3. Night - unable to reset. Seems like the mechanism was damaged by the traps going off. The lockable bait station with enclosed trap hasn't been touched at all, but the trap is the same, so I'm not hopeful, this one will work. I purchased some Roshield traps on Amazon at the same time. These caught rats EVERY night. Same easy to use setting mechanism. I'm going to try and return the faulty traps and purchase more Roshield ones.

Great success with this
These are better than the standard rat traps. I've had great success with one of these in my garden inside the big cheese bait station made for rats. theyre not flawless. I do hae a 75% success rate catching rats with this unlike the standard quick set rat traps with just a bar. The standard rat trap I have a 15% success rate.

Questionable Reliability
Living in the country means we have about 20 traps all over the house. Ive used these for around 10 years and when they work, theyre fine, but the reliability of them is very questionable. The mechanisms dont seem to last very long and become useless. Its not even wear and tear but more a question of age and we come across many traps were the bait has been eaten but its not activated. I obviously test them when i re-load but i no longer have any faith in them. Back to more traditional traps.
