bite away - Insect Bite Healer - Chemical Free Effective and Lasting Relief for Itching, Burning, Pain and Swelling

I don't write many reviews but this product has been so good that I had to say something. I go to the south of Italy a lot and the mosquitoes really bother me. So much so that I will often tolerate very hot weather in jeans and a light sweatshirt rather than be exposed to possible bites - it just feels wrong covering myself in foul smelling DEET all the time. This has changed everything. This year was the first year I tried it and it really does work. As soon as possible after being bitten apply it to the area of the swelling and hit the button. I used the longer button almost all the time but there were parts of the body where I felt more comfortable with less time, applied twice instead. It does get quite hot but that's the point. It needs to reach 51C to neutralise the toxin causing the irritation, i.e. the anti-coagulant from a tiger mosquito. It is not hot enough to burn the skin or leave lasting damage but it does feel a little painful sometimes. I was bitten this year on the neck, feet, legs, fingers, arms and even my earlobe. I used this tool on every one of them. I found my feet were quite sensitive to the heat around the ankle, and my arms around the elbow. It's also important to note that this is really small, about the size of a thick marker. It fit easily into my trouser (and now shorts!) pocket and I carried it everywhere. I generally applied it within 5 minutes of a bite but even if bitten during the night it worked when I used it the next morning. And it really did go from very itchy to no itch at all within 10 minutes of use. It is worth noting that I also used an after-bite pen on the spot to ensure maximum relief. But they wear off really fast and the itchiness never came back. The only minor quibble I have is that in order to keep it thin, the ceramic heating area is pretty small. On some occasions I had to apply it twice because I had missed the location of the bite itself with the heating element even though I had heated the swollen area. But it is a small price to pay for having something that really works and which I can carry with me everywhere easily. I used it for 3 weeks and did not have to change the original batteries. After years of buying mosquito nets, mosquito repellent, after-bite pens, repellent bracelets, after-bite swabs, etc. - with very little relief from any of them - it's such a relief to not need them anymore. I expect I will save a lot of money. I will be getting some for friends and family as presents too.

Cannot recommend this device enough - I was sceptical but I'm so glad I gave it a go! I suffer from Skeeter syndrome and react horribly to mosquito bites on holiday. They become huge, hot and blistered, not to mention painful and itchy. I came back from my last holiday with legs covered in nasty bites, which my doc suspected was turning into cellulitis. I had to have a round of antibiotics and steroid cream. Nasty stuff. Well I just recently arrived back from a holiday in spain and despite precautions, got badly bitten again on the last night. By the time I got home, they were blistering red and hot again and really itchy. Keen to avoid antibiotics, I ordered this device hoping it might help. It was a little painful to administer, on some bites more than others - a bit like getting an injection - sharp and hot. But by morning the bites were no longer hot to the touch and the blisters and inflammation were greatly reduced! It's totally worth the money and momentary discomfort - in the future, I'll travel with this device to treat them sooner, but even two days after being bitten, the results were amazing. If you react badly to bites like me, definitely give this a go!

I have always been vulnerable to being bitten by mozzies and at the end of any holiday would return spotty and itching. Having used ammonia based relief sticks in the past I thought this was the only option available to relievbe the painful itching that continued long after i returned home. I bought Bite Away from Amazon because it came up as a suggestion (clever Big Brother Amazon) and I thought I'd give it a try based on the reviews. Although the Bite Away didn't work 100% on every bite there is no doubt that it is more effective than the topical ammonia applications I'd used previously. The other main advantage is that the temptation to scratch the bites stopped immediately and when occasionally the bigger bites began to itch again after a few hours I simply repeated the process. The downside is that it does hurt a bit. It's pretty hot and did feel like a tiny burn. I got used to it though and I would now make sure I always had a Bite Away pen with me when i travel (plus extra batteries - just in case). The device itself raised a few eyebrows! Some people asked if I was diabetic and was administering medication. But because the relief was pretty much instantaneous I didnt mind. I would definitely (and have) recommend this product. Really does work. Essential to combat sensitivity to bites.

I brought this device after reading many positive reviews on Amazon and having previously used a similar but bulkier device before. I am a veteran of several trips to Colombia and being British appear to be singled-out for biting buy those pesky mosquitos. I imagine, with a different aroma to the locals, it was like being presented with a banquet when I arrived as a holidaymakers. Obviously my first concern is not to get bitten at all and I used Thiamine patches, sprays, wrist-bands, but you cannot avoid getting bitten completely, which is where this device helps. Mosquito bites itch incessantly and no creams etc will reduce this quickly, but the Bite-Away device works rapidly. It is easily stored in a pocket or bag, is ergonomically well thought-out and with simply pressing the right-hand button, applying the heat-pad to the bite for only a few seconds until you hear it bleep, at that's it! You can feel it getting quite hot but it's not painful, just stings slightly. I repeat the process more than once, but after a short while the itching is gone. Reading the literature, the theory is that the heat disrupts the toxins, rendering them inactive. The left-hand button gives heat for a shorter duration, recommended for use with children. So in summary a well-known, easy to use device that I find essential when travelling abroad to hot countries, which I can recommend wholeheartedly!

I bough this for a trip to the Maldives where mosquitoes are rife. I suffer from skeeter syndrome and found this extremely helpful! It’s painful but in a good way as the itch is neutralised. Quite expensive for what it is but it works! I wouldn’t necessarily use on a child but there is an option to use for only 3 seconds rather than the 6 seconds. Easy to use as long as you position it on the bite, rather than any swelling. Can be used on older bites but best used as soon as possible! Would recommend! It also comes with 2 x AA batteries.

Of course - I was slightly sceptical despite reading positive reviews but I just can’t believe how effective this product is. Whilst gardening today I was bitten by a horsefly - on the tender inside of my upper arm. I used the weakest strength pulse - gritted my teeth and waited for the burn . It was fine - no pain just s stinging sensation with heat which lasted for a few seconds and just like magic - the insect sting was no more . I did another treatment an hour later to be on the safe side. Now- four hours later I have no stinging , itching or redness . I used the stronger pulse for a bite on my back - again - an incredible result . To say I am delighted is an understatement. Haven’t tried it on mosquito bites yet but feel it would be just as effective as horsefly bites really are the worst .

This is just what anyone would need if on holiday in a hot country, it work great and takes the itch and sting away immediately, I used this in the Philippines, it was with me all the time

This is a fantastic product. It actually works. Mosquitoes are drawn to me and sometimes I get bitten badly and end up with swollen welts. If this sounds familiar then you need a bite away. Once you get bitten you put this product on the bite and press the button. It emits heat through a pad on the end and neutralises the sting. There are two settings, a shorter on and a longer one. It feels like it’s burning your skin but it’s not. You might have the temptation to pull it away but don’t as it’s working its magic. I honestly only ever use the shorter setting as it suits my tolerance level better. Lots of my friends and family have purchased this product once they have tried it at our place. This one is a replacement for one I bought 12 years ago. Unfortunately the first one fell and broke. It’s also small enough to pack when we travel. It’s a fantastic product and I can’t recommend it highly enough. It is well worth the money!

The Bite-Away is a remarkable product. It is modeled on the "old wive's tales" about applying a hot cigarette butt or spoon dipped in boiling water to a bite to treat it. In fact it's NOT "an old wives tale." The Bite Away, through it's digital temperature controls, treats the bite at just the right temperature to destroy the venom but not damage the tissues. This product is amazing. Crazy expensive to get it to Canada but I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else. It does hurt but the results are well worth it! I am a bug magnet and this has made being outdoors in summer fun again!

Keep in my bag always, battery cover at bottom could be a little more secure, would be great if it could be supplied with a protective sleeve/cover to help protect unit.
